Core Technologist II

Job Functions, Duties, Responsibilities and Position Qualifications:

Position Summary

The Core Technologist II is responsible for performing moderate and high complexity clinical assays, advanced troubleshooting, and training new staff within the Core Laboratory.  A Technologist II adheres to departmental and SRL policies/procedures while participating in daily workflows on the assigned bench. They also assist in special projects as assigned and support administrative tasks as needed within the Core Laboratory. 

Job Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

Efficiently performs moderate & high complexity clinical assays according to written SOPsAdheres to departmental/OSHA policies and procedures including quality control, analytical performance, quality assurance, and safetyContributes to general laboratory functions by keeping a neat work area, attending meetings, and complying with laboratory procedures and safety practicesEnsures specimen integrity by adhering to the laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processingAnalyzes reviews, and reports test and quality control results and takes remedial action when indicatedEnters and verifies data within the clinical LIMS systemTracks, and leads Instrument to Instrument and carryover studiesAssists in assessment of tech competencyTrains peers, according to the SOP, on bench processes and workflowTracks and coordinates Calibration VerificationOversees and tracks lot-to-lot performanceProcesses inventory in ProcureIT upon receiptAssists R&D and Senior Techs with special projects and validationsEnsures effective communication between bench mates, and between the other benchesPerforms, documents, and maintains Quality Control assessments and dataGeneral laboratory housekeeping, including the regular cleaning of sinks, counters, and equipment as appropriateEnthusiastically performs miscellaneous duties with completion in a designated time frameFiles documentation associated with daily production runsParticipates in laboratory continuing education programCultivates a positive work environment and a culture of quality and respectParticipates in daily workflow and resolving technical issuesConsults with production leadership, management and vendor support to resolve reagent and instrument issues as directedParticipates in instrument maintenance, scheduling routine vendor maintenanceParticipates in supply management on assigned bench including inventory counts, order requests, labeling and appropriate usageProcesses inventory in ProcureIT upon receiptParticipates in/recommends process improvement/quality assurance projects as assignedAssists on complex projects as assignedEdits technical SOPs for accuracy of content as assignedAssists internal process audits as assigned

 

Skills:

Understands and follows written procedures and verbal instructionsBasic computer knowledge including MS Excel and WordAbility to communicate effectively at all levels within the laboratory and work well across lab areasAbility to work with frequent interruptions and fluctuations in workloadAbility to handle multiple priorities and manage stress appropriatelyAbility to work alone with minimal supervisionWorks with initiative, independence, and demonstrates good judgmentOperational knowledge of complex lab automation and networked lab systemsExcellent attention to detail and ability to collect and analyze data using graphs, tables, charts, and mathematical calculationsDemonstrates technical expertise in high complexity methodologiesDemonstrates mastery of manual and automated pipettes

Job Qualifications

Required:

B.S. or Associate in Medical Technology or Chemical, Biological, or Physical Science2 years of pertinent laboratory experience or professional laboratory certification

Preferred:

Certification in Clinical Laboratory Science by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or equivalent Previous experience in process improvement and/or project managementProven track record of working with initiative, independence, and good judgementExperience in technical troubleshooting within a pertinent laboratory environment
