Job DescriptionExpeditors is seeking an experienced attorney with significant labor and employment law experience in Asia Pacific countries to fill its Corporate Counsel position that will be located in Singapore. You will join a world-class legal department and will be responsible for providing advice and strategies on labor and employment matters. Primary responsibilities include the following:
Support and advise business teams, including executives, managers, employee relations, health and safety, payroll, information services, and operations, regarding compliance with labor and employment laws and regulationsAdvise on issues such as discipline, non-competition, terminations, performance management, relocations, leave, disability, contingent workers, pay equity, pay transparency, contractor management, occupational health and safety, anti-discrimination, wage and hour, immigration, employee personal data privacy, and union/labor relationsManage litigation, outside counsel, and budgetsProvide representation and/or management of matters before fair employment, civil rights, and human rights agenciesConduct and manage internal investigationsRespond to governmental subpoenas, investigations, and auditsDraft and revise employment policies, standards, and internal work regulationsDraft service provider, commission, non-compete, restrictive covenant, employment, and settlement agreementsDevelop and deliver client training on compliance with labor and employment lawsLead responses to governmental inquiries into employment and labor related mattersPerform project management work for legal projectsFormulate efficient resolution strategies to meet business objectivesProvide effective cross-functional support inside and outside of the legal departmentAssist in developing and implementing departmental goals and initiativesPerform other duties as assignedTravel: Expected 5% to 15%; Valid passport/authorized to travel internationally
QualificationsJuris Doctor, Bachelor of Laws, LLM, or equivalent degree
Legal qualification from Singapore or an international jurisdiction5-10 years of experience in a top law firm preferredIn-house experience working in the law department of a Fortune 500 company highly desirable, but not requiredStrong knowledge of, and practical experience advising on, labor and employment laws and regulationsPractical experience working with trade unions preferredStrong analytical, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skillsExcellent organizational skills with high level of attention to detail and accuracyExcellent business judgment and ability to work independentlyAdditional InformationExpeditors offers competitive compensation as described below.
