Responsibilities
We are seeking a full-time litigator and counselor to join our collegial, collaborative and inspired legal team. Specific responsibilities include:
Developing and executing strategy on litigated matters and disputes, primarily in the United States; practice areas may include commercial litigation, consumer fraud, product liability, and personal injury, among others Managing and overseeing the discovery process in pre-litigation claims and litigated matters as assigned Working cross-functionally with business teams and other lawyers on litigation strategies Overseeing outside counsel relationships to deliver litigation outcomes Working with and assigning directional tasks to litigation paraprofessionals Developing and implementing e-discovery processes and tools to streamline document management Determining the need for, developing and executing internal training, based on litigation and dispute learnings Other opportunities as assigned
Qualifications
Reporting to the Senior Counsel – Litigation, the successful candidate will exhibit unmatched ethical standards, a passion for client service, a strong work ethic, and a can-do attitude. The successful candidate will also be skilled at balancing business and legal risks and managing multiple projects at one time. Specific qualifications are:
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school Active license to practice law in a U.S. jurisdiction; ability to become licensed in Minnesota Minimum of 3 - 5 years of experience as a litigation attorney or in a related legal role in a law firm or in-house law department; some law firm experience desired Experience with mediations and arbitrations is a plus Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Proficiency in legal research and writing Strong understanding of discovery rules and practices Demonstrated ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously Familiarity with products liability, class action land/or personal injury litigation is a plus Demonstrated curiosity; able to quickly learn new areas and business considerations; comfortable with change Able to manage company confidential information and data requiring the highest degree of attention to preserve confidentiality Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite and legal research tools Must be a Citizen or National of the United States, a lawful, permanent resident, or have authorization to work in the United States Applicants must not now, or in the future, require sponsorship for an employment visa
Location: Austin, MN (Global Headquarters)
A comprehensive relocation package to the Austin, MN area will be offered, if required.
At Hormel Foods, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. The base hiring pay range for the Corporate Counsel role is $120,000 - $168,000 per year, and your actual base pay within that range will depend upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge, skill set, level of experience, and geographic market location.
