The Corporate Legal Specialist is responsible for researching, reviewing and providing counsel on state and federal regulations related to the operation of institutions of higher education. Interprets regulations and provides a business sensitive, value added approach to the delivery of high-quality work product and adequate legal controls on a timely basis. This position works with every department at the Institute to resolve student and employee issues and provides summaries and assists in resolutions under the supervision of the Vice President of Human Resources.
This is a Hybrid position, with two days working at the office and 3 days working remote.
• Provide legal services concerning procurement and contracting laws, rules, policies, and procedures;
• Establish compliant operational strategies by evaluating trends;
• Establish critical measurements to determine production, productivity, quality, and customer-service strategies;
• Design systems for accumulating resources, resolving problems and implementing changes;
• Negotiate, draft, review, and edit agreements, terms and conditions, forms, and other procurement and contracting documents;
• Advise Legal & Compliance and business units on procurement and contracting issues, including on contract monitoring activities;
• Review federal and state requirements, research protocols, and other government, local, and Institute mandates to ensure that the Institute and its employees are in compliance with these regulations;
• Ensure that the Institute’s objectives are aligned to regulatory guidelines that yield the highest standards of student achievement and instructional excellence;
• Coordinate and facilitate the scheduling and submission of required and other academic program reviews, reports and catalogues;
• Oversee maintenance of repository for all external program approvals, professional accreditations' and records of regulatory compliance;
• Protect the organization by establishing compliance standards;
• Anticipate emerging compliance trends;
• Design improvements to internal control structure;
• Update procedures and policies to ensure fulfillment of current and new regulatory obligations;
• Avoid legal challenges by understanding current and proposed legislation and enforcing regulations;
• Recommend new procedures to comply with changing legal requirements;
• Provide general advice and assistance on other matters assigned;
• With outside counsel, represents the company as assigned in litigation matters;
• Research and analyze legal issues and prepare legal memoranda, pleadings, briefs, notices, motions, and orders;
• Review employee accommodation requests;
• Collect and review evidence, prepares discovery responses and affidavits, and otherwise assists in the defense or prosecution of litigation;
Requirements:
Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school and at least three years of related work experience; Must have superior research and communication skills; Experience with higher education/professional accreditation and project management; Ability to perform job duties independently and under sometimes strict time deadlines; An operational mindset with a high level of personal accountability, and the flexibility to function in a fast-paced business environment.
