Corporate Staff Accountant

This position is a member of the Corporate Finance team and its primary purpose is to support the Project Accounting, Fixed Asset, and Indirect Tax team. This position is responsible for tracking capital project spending, creating and managing the company’s fixed assets, processing various transactional tax returns and reports, preparing journal entries, and reconciling accounts on a timely basis.

Job Duties (Duties marked with an asterisk are essential functions of this job):

Maintain the capital project accounting system and ensure projects adhere to the Company’s Capital Asset Policy. Coordinate with project managers to initiate related work orders and purchase orders. Record all capital spending for the Company and ensure spending is posted to the correct project. Prepare and provide capital spending reports.

Account for the Company’s fixed assets by recording new assets and processing asset retirements, sales, and transfers. Ensure accurate sales and use tax compliance on fixed asset purchases and transactions. Prepare journal entries, monthly reports, and roll-forwards. Reconcile fixed asset accounts to the general ledger and research any discrepancies. Prepare and provide fixed asset reports.

Assist management in posting depreciation and in researching any variances as compared to budget.

Provide support to operations with identifying existing assets that may be replaced by new capital projects and determine any potential financial impact upon disposal.

Prepare returns for Sales and Use Tax, Local Transactional Tax returns, and Unclaimed Property per the State and Local published due dates.

Assist with researching correct sales and use tax positions on various business transactions. Provide support for Pennsylvania Sales and Use tax audits.

Create and maintain SOP’s as related to current processes. Identify potential process improvements.

Process Real Estate Tax payments.

Perform monthly account reconciliations as assigned.  

Complete special projects and prepare ad-hoc reports and analysis as requested.

Perform other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications:

18 years of age or older

Bachelor’s degree - Accounting, Business Administration, Financial Management

Minimum of 2 years of related accounting/finance experience 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Demonstrated analytical skills.  Detail oriented with a high level of accuracy.

Ability to communicate and advocate accounting positions.

Advanced use of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word, and ability to use these tools to create efficiencies.

Experience with financial accounting software and reporting tools.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced environment and effectively manage multiple priorities with competing deadlines.
