The Marathon Galveston Bay Refinery is seeking a motivated, team-oriented individual to collaborate with Inspection, Metallurgy, and other refining personnel to ensure the mechanical integrity and reliability of the refinery operating units. Responsibilities include assessing inspection findings, proactively identifying areas of concern, and offering corrective options before a problem impacts production.  This position will be based out of Marathon Petroleum’s Galveston Bay Refinery in Texas City, TX.

Key Responsibilities:

Provides technical support for updating and implementing Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) strategies.Assist with the development of risked based inspection databases, Integrity Operating windows (IOWs), and Corrosion Control Documents (CCDs).Perform failure analyses as needed to support the refinery, and support incident investigations as they pertain to metallurgy and corrosion.Review and approve welding and post weld heat treatment procedures. Recommend alternative welding processes as needed.Directs the analysis and evaluation of failed equipment and/or components and subsequently provides a summary of the findings, which may include the issuance of guidelines, recommendations, or operational changes with regards to the materials of construction and their application.Provides stewardship and consulting support for use of online corrosion monitoring techniques and corrosion coupons.Engages in the Inspection Group’s procedure development and review process to help ensure that procedures are consistent with known corrosion engineering best practices.Assists the Unit Inspectors with non-routine repair decisions during both routine and turnaround periods.Facilitates and/or participates in corrosion studies to identify potential damage mechanisms and assist in solving material degradation problems.Works with the Unit Inspectors to ensure inspection plans are adequate based on potential and known damage mechanisms.Improves reliability of fixed equipment that affect unit availability and drive high maintenance cost.Initiates programs which are proactive in preventing safety incidents and costly production losses and ensuring the maximum life of fixed equipment. Networks with Corporate reliability groups including the Corrosion & Materials Advisory Group (CMAG) and the Risk-based Inspection Work Group (RBIWG). 

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgical/Materials Engineering or Corrosion Engineering or related degree. (Education must be obtained/completed prior to start date)Must have at least 4 years of experience as a corrosion/materials engineer.Must be proficient with Microsoft:  Excel, Word, and Outlook.Must be authorized to work in the US on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future.Must be able to climb ladders, enter towers, examine remote equipment, and work within confined spaces.A valid driver’s license is required.

Preferred Qualifications

3+ years post-degree engineering experience as a corrosion/materials engineer in the refining or petrochemical industry desired.Experience with conducting risk assessments, performing failure analysis, and supporting inspection or corrosion engineering activities desired.RBI experience either implementation of new program or evergreening existing program desired.GE Meridium (APM) V4 experience desired.
