The Cost Engineer, Advisor possesses wide-ranging sourcing and/or engineering experience to achieve Best Cost at Launch goals. The Cost Engineer, Advisor will use working knowledge of electronic device components and designs to support New Product Development costing and Business Case development. They will utilize their multi-layered and deep category expertise to work closely with business stakeholders to identify, define, and execute cost reduction opportunities to achieve Product cost objectives.

 

This position requires hybrid work in either the Holtsville, NY, Lincolnshire, IL or Missisauga, Canada location. 


Responsibilities:
Utilizes Excel or other spreadsheet tools to accurately track and report on Costed Bill of Materials (CBOM) for multiple Zebra Products. Regularly update and share standardized Product cost reporting slides and data. Be ready to report on status at any point in timeCollaborate with the Product Development and Procurement teams to identify Cost Reduction opportunities and maintain opportunities within BOM cost projection spreadsheet. Inform Procurement team of relevant challenges to address during negotiationsCreate and lead negotiation strategies using established negotiation skills and tools (component Benchmarking, cost models, etc)Utilize multilayered and deep category knowledge to understand CBOM drivers and implement aggressive yet realistic targetsUses market insights, trends, and intangibles to identify negotiation opportunitiesCreate cost estimates during product concept phases with significant feature set ambiguityWorks alongside Engineering teams to develop feature implementation costs to support Product spec finalization processesRegularly reports to Leadership Team on current product cost status and Product cost projectionsCreates and evaluates component cost models to assess Should Cost based on unique part designs and attributesOperates within Zebra Product Lifecycle Management tool (PLM) to track down necessary data to support ones work: Part Number and structured BOM searches, Engineering Change details, Part specification and design detailsPerforms BOM cost analytics to identify areas of cost opportunity, risk, or are of interestMentor junior Cost Engineer employees contributing to their training and development
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: 

Bachelor's degree required with a preference for Engineering, Business Administration, Supply Chain, or related 8+ years of Strategic Sourcing experience in Direct Categories (direct material, Hardware, etc.) or in Engineering (design, manufacturing, or process)

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working directly with engineering teams/engineering topicsMicrosoft Excel (intermediate skills), Microsoft PowerPoint (intermediate skill), intermediate skill with RFQ toolsExcellent professional communications (verbal and written) with suppliers, stakeholders, and managementAbility to problem solve with limited data and ambiguityProven negotiations results from Strategic Sourcing processesDemonstrated project management skills with a desire to learn and ability to work independently in a fast paced, changing environmentCan present data in a visually compelling format to help business stakeholders understand the issues, possibilities, and recommendations Self-disciplined and the ability to Self-motivate and work successfully with a multi-disciplinary teamResourcefulness gathering specific supply market research and intelligence that support making strategic sourcing business decisionsUnderstanding of Clean Sheet models with some experience using them

Salary: USD 106800.00 - USD 160200.00 Yearly


Salary offered will vary depending on your location, job-related skills, knowledge, and experience.
Additionally, all Zebra roles are eligible for cash incentive programs. For example, sales roles have additional opportunity to earn substantial variable compensation tied to quota achievement. In most other roles, the Zebra annual cash incentive program links Company and individual performance together. Some roles may also be eligible for long-term incentive equity awards.
