Job Title: Cost & Inventory Manager
Job Description We are looking for a committed and detail-focused Cost & Inventory Manager to evaluate monthly financial outcomes, clarify material discrepancies, and recommend necessary adjustments. The ideal candidate will generate precise and timely financial trend analyses to support management decisions and oversee inventory control activities. This position involves participating in the month-end process, updating standard costs, and assisting in developing models to capture actual manufacturing costs.
Responsibilities
+ Evaluate monthly financial outcomes and clarify material discrepancies between actuals and budget, prior month, or prior year results.
+ Recommend adjustments based on financial evaluations.
+ Generate precise and timely financial trend analyses highlighting the company’s KPIs.
+ Oversee inventory control activities, including reconciling physical vs perpetual records, cycle counts, material transfers, and identifying excess, obsolete, and scrap materials.
+ Validate inventory balances for raw materials, work in process (WIP), and finished goods, as well as the cost of goods sold.
+ Participate in the month-end process and post all inventory-related adjustments.
+ Prepare reconciliation workpapers for each inventory balance sheet account.
+ Update standard costs (materials & labor) as necessary.
+ Assist in developing a model to capture actual manufacturing costs (materials, labor & overhead) for product pricing.
+ Develop automated reporting and forecasting tools for efficient data utilization.
+ Play an active role during the budget process by preparing data for department heads to create their annual budgets.
+ Act as a liaison to other departments to ensure timely budget completion and communicate any questions or feedback from higher management.
+ Provide auditors (internal/external) with schedules and explanations for inquiries related to inventory or manufacturing costs.
+ Collaborate closely with the finance accounting team to provide feedback on the proper treatment/posting of overhead expenses.
+ Coordinate with the manufacturing and materials management team to establish proper procedures for inventory movements and assist them in being audit-ready.
+ Supervise accounting staff.
Essential Skills
+ Strong skills in inventory control, reconciliation, and cost accounting.
+ Proficiency in ERP systems and financial systems.
+ Understanding of accounting theories and/or US GAAP/IFRS.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and computer skills.
+ Detail-oriented, highly organized, and a self-starter who sets and achieves ambitious goals.
+ Ability to meet deadlines with a sense of urgency.
+ Adaptability to new situations and ability to work well in a fast-paced environment.
+ Demonstrates analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ BS Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics.
+ Minimum of 5 years of experience in cost accounting/financial analysis.
+ Experience in Pharmaceutical Manufacturing preferred.
+ Experience in the pharmaceutical industry or other life science businesses preferred.
Work Environment This role offers a hybrid work environment, with 2-3 days in the office. The accounting team consists of about 5 people. There are no direct reports in this position.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.57 - $60.09/hr.
