COUNSELOR

Counselor Job Summary:

To assess symptoms and provide out-patient counseling services for clients and families, if needed, to meet their psychosocial needs.

Primary Duties

Facilitate individual, group, and family psychotherapy as needed. Assist clients and psychiatrist with appropriate community planning and follow up treatment. Coordinate referrals to clinically appropriate levels of care. Collaborate with community agencies and other mental health care providers as needed.  Discuss and review individualized care plans with patient and treatment team. Be an active and participating member of the treatment team. Act as an advocate for all clients and families as appropriate. Create and foster a work environment that is consistent with the Mission, Vision and Values of the Aultman Health                 Foundation. Supports strategic organizational goals. Abide by the Aultman Code of Conduct at all times.

Qualifications

Graduate of approved school with a master’s degree in social work, counseling or related field. LISW, LPCC preferred. Experience in providing evidence-based treatment, including short term therapy. Valid licensure in the State of Ohio. One year of experience in an out-patient treatment setting. Refined written and oral communication skills.            Knowledge of managed care concepts in relation to financial aspects of client care. Must be able to cope with the emotional and mental stress of the position and deadlines imposed on specific duties. Refined organizational skills with a well-developed style of diplomacy, assertiveness, and a tolerance for ambiguity. Able to use critical thinking skills, problem solving abilities and an understanding of systems and change process. Able to function independently, with autonomy, displaying personal integrity and always maintaining confidentiality.  Able to work with all levels of the multidisciplinary healthcare team. Refined negotiating skills and the ability to deal with conflict resolution.  Demonstrates leadership skills and the ability to delegate tasks. Functions in the role as client/family advocate, intervening as needs indicate. Dresses in professional manner.

Working Conditions

Works 8 to 10 hours per day, adjusting hours to meet the customer’s needs. Must be in good physical and mental health and maintain an excellent attendance record. Must adhere to Aultman Health Foundation policies and procedures. Must fulfill position description requirements. Is subject to frequent interruptions during performance of duties. Must be able to utilize computers / word processing.
