Position Summary:

The Counselor will oversee the implementation programs and activities and ensure a positive environment that promotes and enhances the development of boys and girls by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence.  This is a grant funded position that will be in effect during the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 school years.

Hours: Part Time Monday-Friday, approximately 25 hours each week

Responsibilities

Essential Job Responsibilities:

 Prepare Youth for Success

Assist in implementation of activities that support our primary outcomes as determined by the Formula for Impact: Academic Success, Good Character & Citizenship, and Healthy Lifestyles.Use the Formula for Impact as a guide to create activities and programs that appeal to youth, engage them in planning and gear them towards future success. Encourage Members to participate in programs/ activities in all outcome areas.  Create an environment that highlights the achievement of youth by recognizing good behavior and accomplishments (ex: public recognition, parent contact, certificates, incentives etc…)Demonstrate leadership and reinforce programmatic goals through daily interactions with Members. Work with Members to develop positive attitudes towards school, positive relationships with others and a healthy lifestyle.Provide guidance and act as a role model to members. Get to know their individual circumstances and provide a positive influence.Be actively involved in youth success and proactive! Discuss barriers to success with your Supervisor immediately.  Program ImplementationEnsure all programs begin and end on time.Ensure members are supervised at all times during the program.Work with Program Coordinators and staff to implement programs.Follow the Program Quality Standards (PQA) when implementing programs to ensure consistency of implementation.Ensure members receive instructions and constructive feedback/ reflect to develop and reinforce skills in program area(s).When possible, run activities/ programs that expose large groups of youth to programs. (utilize gym, outdoor facilities, playground or gamesroom)Partnership DevelopmentParticipate in all part time staff meetings.Participate in professional information and development sessions.Assist in the coordination of outcome efforts with program staff by attending all planning meetings and following Club planning protocol.Safety and SecurityEnsure program areas are safe that the Club equipment is maintained in good working condition. Report issues or concerns to your Supervisor. Ensure all Violence Prevention policies are enforced at all times.Ensure Emergency Procedures are followed and report any concerns to Staff.

 Environmental and Working conditions

All work is conducted in a School Site/Club setting, indoor and outside.  Limited travel is required.

Additional Responsibilities:

Supervision:Assist in the supervision of members in the Club and on the bus as needed.

Relationships:

Maintain daily contact with program staff.Maintain contact with members as needed to advise and/or discipline.

Knowledge

Demonstrated knowledge of principles related to development of youth, group leadership skills and an understanding of group dynamics.

 

Education:

This position requires a High School diploma or equivalent and a minimum of one-year experience in the field of Youth Development.

 

Experience:

Experience in a Boys & Girls Club (or similar organization) preferred.  Demonstrated ability to create a positive environment for all youth is required.

Demonstrate the ability to:
