We are looking for a Country Manager to lead our Marine & Offshore team in Canada. Bring your classification society experience and leadership skills to Bureau Veritas. This role covers both country management and interventions as a surveyor on selected projects, and is based in Quebec City.
Key Responsibilities:
· Leadership over the BV M&O Business and Organization in Canada (commercial leadership and managerial leadership)
· BV M&O Canada P&L Management and Accountability
· For those elements of individual budgets directly under your control, perform to budget for Revenue, OP and Cash. Manage costs, as a minimum, in accordance with budget expectations. Share elements of MTD/YTD financial performance for your area of responsibility with your teams to connect importance of individual performance to the financial metrics.
· Development of a larger customer base in Canada, increase revenue and profitability
· Adapt the workforces and competences to the business requirements in Canada. Develop a sustainable Canada sourcing of qualified surveyors. May intervene occasionally for surveys onboard ships.
· Ensure compliance with Group and Marine & Offshore guidelines and procedures.
· Maintain safety behavior across your teams, as evidenced by continual engagement and compliance with the M&O corporate program, and maintaining records that indicate safety campaigns, STBTs, inspections and relevant training are all being carried out.
· Develop outline business plan for your area of responsibility to address the NA strategy with focus on contract review, contract management, account management, growth and visibility in market
· Implement a program of activities throughout the full year to address communication and engagement with team – to include meetings, team lunches, one on ones, etc. as opportunity and cost limitations present. As a minimum, communication to address: safety matters, management activities in NA, personal development, general BV developments (new services/products, policy & procedure updates)
· Address any negative trends in relevant operational KPIs to your area of responsibility – resulting in overall “positive” trend for all metrics by year end - with special focus on survey report submission, validation and timely invoicing. Prioritize client responsiveness and movement of client intel from front line surveyors & develop a documented means to track and manage all opportunities, RFPs and bids.
Technical/Professional Qualifications/Requirements:
· A degree or equivalent in a related field, such as marine engineering or naval architecture.
· 5 years of related experience preferred, qualified surveyor and auditor.
· Classification society experience.
· Thorough understanding of the shipping market and marine environment.
· Ability to travel frequently
· Experience managing teams and business development
· Extended understanding and experience of the business of a classification society and of the B to B services in the Marine and Offshore industries
