This position will serve as County Maintenance Engineer for Craven and Jones Counties. Employee in this position will be expected to manage, plan, and supervise all road maintenance and force account construction for Craven and Jones Counties in accordance with established policies and procedures. The selected candidate should have considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of Civil Engineering and highway maintenance methods and techniques. Selected candidate should have considerable knowledge of the use and operations of all field and office engineering instruments, ability to understand, explain and administer contracts, ability to interpret plans, provisions and specifications, ability to interpret policies, procedures and regulations. Employee will be expected to establish working relationships between the Department and citizens. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following: + Experience in the management of multiple projects and scheduling and directing multiple work crews + Experience in the use of professional engineering skills and knowledge to troubleshoot and solve highway maintenance problems + Experience in tracking cost expenditures in various account systems on multiple large projects + Experience in conduction meetings with employees, citizens and public officials to conduction investigations and resolve various issues Additional Expectations: Employee in this position will use professional engineering skills and knowledge to solve difficult highway maintenance problems and to accomplish force account construction projects. Employee in this position will supervise and monitor maintenance program to ensure efficient and safe use of personnel, equipment, and materials. Employee must have the ability to formulate a comprehensive highway maintenance program within limits of budget and data. Employee must supervise and evaluate the performance of other employees and must be able to communicate effectively and maintain positive working relationships with the general public, local governments, fellow employees, etc. Employee must be able to operate a motor vehicle safely and perform field investigations on uneven terrain, including steep slopes and work in extreme conditions such as ice, snow, dust, extreme heat and cold. Work includes emergency situations, nights, and weekends. Will be subject to high volumes of traffic and extreme temperatures/weather conditions. A valid North Carolina driver's license is required. Employee in this position will be required to wear safety toe footwear.
