Key Responsibilities
The Court Usher will play a vital role in supporting the efficient operation of the court. The role involves assisting the judiciary and legal staff with various administrative and organisational tasks, ensuring smooth court proceedings, and providing excellent customer service to all individuals using the court facilities.
Court Preparation: Ensure courts are set up with necessary materials (e.g., water bottles, glasses) and clean up at the end of each sitting.Court Records & Paperwork: Liaise with the Judge and Clerk for hearing papers, obtain names of parties, complete court records, and photocopy required documents.Witness Management: Swear in witnesses as required.Customer Service & Liaison: Provide in-court support, answer enquiries, keep parties informed of changes, and escort court users as necessary.Collaboration & Office Support: Work with Court Clerks, Legal Advisers, and Witness Services, and assist in other office areas as needed.Adherence to Office Standards: Follow timekeeping, dress code, and professional standards.Key Skills & CompetenciesIn-Court Support: Ability to support court staff, remain calm in challenging situations, and provide efficient assistance.Communication: Clear and tactful communication with all court users and staff.Teamwork: Works well with colleagues, treating everyone fairly and respectfully.Professionalism: Handles sensitive information discreetly and maintains professionalism in all interactions.Experience & QualificationsExperience working in a public-facing environmentPrevious experience of providing information related to legal proceedings, managing people in a courtroom environment, or swearing in witnesses is beneficial.Experience answering face-to-face enquiries, maintaining a calm and efficient approach when dealing with the public.Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing situations in a busy, dynamic environment.
