Amalgamated Bank seeks a highly motivated professional for full-time employment within the Bank’s Credit Risk Management Department (CRM) supporting the Bank’s Commercial Real Estate (CRE) lending platform based out of the Bank’s New York City office.
This Credit Officer role reports to the Senior Credit Officer (SCO) for CRE. The role functions in a second line of defense capacity primarily performing credit analysis/review for the origination of CRE loans, and monitoring criticized assets for performance, workout, and with an overall focus on risk rating accuracy.
Essential Job Functions:
Credit Analysis Activities – review of Credit Approval Memoranda (CAM) submitted by CRE Lending for various classes of commercial real estate, which includes:
+ Research borrowers, tenants, geographic markets, asset classes and industries
+ Review of borrower and property financial information, including analysis of corporate financial statements, tax returns, credit report, personal financial statements, real estate owned schedule, rent rolls, lease agreements, historical income and expense statements
+ Review cashflow spreads, DSCR determination, and risk rating recommendation presented by Underwriting to be discussed with SCO
+ Review of third-party reports including commercial real estate appraisals, environmental reports, and property condition reports
+ Work with the Relationship Managers to obtain missing and necessary information to underwrite the credit request
+ Determine due diligence requirements and conditions to close that will be forwarded to Loan Closing, and conduct review of certain diligence items during the closing process
+ Prepare comments of reviewed CAMs to be discussed with the SCO
Portfolio Management (PM) – PM activity is for both the performing loans and watch list loans. Responsibilities include:
+ Perform review of Annual Credit Reviews prepared by the Portfolio Management Group
+ Perform property inspections as required under the Bank’s Credit Policy
+ Review memoranda for release of reserves, draw requests, and maturity extensions
+ Prepare quarterly impairment analyses to assess reserve or charge-off implications
+ Prepare Modification worksheets
+ Handle workout loans requiring strategic planning, negotiation of loan restructures, financial analysis, and ensuring adherence to relevant documentation and reporting standards with the goal of minimizing credit losses
Day to Day
+ Ensure adherence to Credit Policies and all related administrative procedures and discuss with Senior Credit Officer
+ Communicate directly with CRE Lending on CAM comments and PM workflow
+ Provide input on strategy and process efficiency to Senior Credit Officer
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Requirements:
+ Bachelor’s degree; master’s degree a plus
+ High degree of knowledge within the NYC Metro market on core CRE assets classes
+ Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in CRE credit analysis and underwriting
+ Demonstrable track record of loan workout skills covering a variety of asset classes resulting in note sale, foreclosure, or loan restructuring.
+ Formal credit training highly desired
+ Excellent proficiency in reading, simulating/sensitizing rent rolls, and analyzing property cash flows
+ Excellent financial analysis skills
+ Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
+ High degree of proficiency with financial modeling
+ High degree of proficiency of Microsoft Word and Excel
+ Experience reviewing Environmental and Property Conditions reports
+ Commercial real estate appraisal license/experience a plus
+ Experience with Collateral 360 a plus
+ Familiarity with Mid-Atlantic and California CRE markets a plus
Our job titles may span more than one career level. The starting base salary for this role is between $150,000.00 – $170,000.00. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferrable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
