Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit The Jeanne Tannenbaum Center for Creative Practice (JTCCP) is an innovative programming and collaboration space for UNCG faculty, students, visiting creatives, and residents of the nearby Greensboro neighborhoods to create, learn, share, and connect. Programming at the JTCCP, including a creative-in-residence program, provides a “third space” for impactful campus and community partnerships through innovative residencies (create), programming (share), collaborative knowledge creation (learn), and leadership development (connect).The JTCCP is the first new building of UNCG’s Millennium Campus initiative and sits at the physical intersection of its two corridors: a health and wellness corridor along Gate City Boulevard, and a visual and performing arts corridor along Tate Street. The facility is currently under design with Perkins & Will architects and scheduled to be complete in spring 2026. The 12,000-square-foot center is flexible to accommodate different creative practices and include maker spaces, several studios, a light-filled community gathering hub and an outdoor hub, a learning lab, and an immersive black box studio equipped with technology to facilitate innovative collaboration. The JTCCP provides a home base and internship opportunities for UNCG’s undergraduate students. Position Summary Reporting to the associate vice chancellor for museums and creative practice and serving as a key senior leader, the creative director for the Jeanne Tannenbaum Center for Creative Practice (JTCCP) takes an entrepreneurial and collaborative approach to campus and community programming with creativity at the core. The creative director manages the center’s day-to-day activities, creating and sustaining a robust offering of programs and residencies. The director supports the strategic vision established by UNCG’s chancellor and develops and implements all elements of creative programming to highlight faculty research, student learning, and community engagement. The director develops strategic partnerships, works collaboratively with visiting creatives, engages in fundraising activities, and coordinates staff and students to support the center’s activities. Minimum Qualifications · At least 5 years’ experience and demonstrated success initiating and implementing initiatives that present a varied creative program.· Advanced degree in an arts and creativity management, performing arts, or related field of study, or bachelor’s degree combined with significant related professional experience.· Experience as the primary person responsible for programming within a larger organization.· Experience working with national and internationally recognized creatives.· Demonstrated experience developing budgets.· Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills with a demonstrated team-based approach to management and excellent consultative and collaborative skills.· Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of people and commitment to diversity and equity.· Strong communication skills with demonstrated ability to present complex information clearly with confidence and credibility, including in public speaking.· Experience in a university or college setting and familiarity with university policies and procedures.· Grant-writing experience.· Interest in and availability to attend evening and weekend events as required. Percentage Of Time 35 Key Responsibility The creative director manages the center’s day-to-day activities, creating and sustaining a robust offering of programs and residencies. Essential Tasks Develop and Implement ProgrammingThe creative director is a connector and facilitator. Guided by the center’s vision, the creative director develops and curates its signature creative-in-residence program as well as additional opportunities for faculty, student, and community use of the center as an experimentation and presentation hub for creative practice with an emphasis on engaging diverse voices. These opportunities include, among other things, exhibitions, lectures and talks, workshops, and family days; summer opportunities and events designed to engage a wide range of audiences and participants; fellowships for community members and students; and potential revenue-generating events such as conferences and TED-style events. The creative director also drafts presentation, program booklets, and project descriptions, reports, and evaluations. Percentage Of Time 25 Key Responsibility The director supports the strategic vision established by UNCG’s chancellor and develops and implements all elements of creative programming to highlight faculty research, student learning, and community engagement. The director will oversee the supervision (Building and Technology Manager – future position) and collaboration of shared employees within the organizational operation. Essential Tasks Maintain Organizational OperationsWithin the JTCCP, the creative director provides effective leadership and clear, consistent communication with colleagues to articulate program content and goals and to ensure the success of those programs. In addition, this person works with the associate vice chancellor and campus partners to engage an advisory council and a community council; works closely with arts administration faculty to create and sustain impactful degree-dependent internships for undergraduate students, whose work will be part of the center’s operations; manages the work of a building and technology manager (future position); works with the finance manager to develop and manage budgets and perform periodic cost-benefit and productivity analyses; works with the head of communications to raise visibility of the center and its programs through engagement and print, digital, and social media; discusses program ideas regularly with the associate vice chancellor and create a collaborative environment for creative discussion and idea sharing among other center staff, faculty, students, and community members; seeks revenue-generating opportunities. Percentage Of Time 30 Key Responsibility The center provides campus and community access to a variety of resources for community-engaged creative practice and allows people to create, share, learn, and connect. Essential Tasks Develop a Community of LearnersOn campus, the creative director partners with faculty and students to provide creative space for experimentation, collaboration, learning, and presentation. In the neighborhood, the director develops and sustains community relationships that are relevant and meaningful to individuals and groups, seeking connections that uplift campus and community creativity together. In addition, the creative director maintains professional contacts in the field, including artists and innovators across multiple fields, actively researching and pursing new engagements through attending conferences, performances, and exhibitions and visiting similar venues in the United States and abroad. Within the university, the creative director liaises with colleagues across departments to coordinate strategies and implement initiatives related to collaborative efforts and deepen engagement opportunities with the center’s programs and visiting creatives. Essential Tasks Donor and Professional EngagementSupports the chancellor and associate vice chancellor in donor relations and development activities, including long-range planning and donor engagement. Speaks on behalf of the JTCCP through participation in university-wide initiatives and committees and attend and speak, when appropriate, at public and private programs and fundraising events in support of the JTCCP’s activities.
