As Creative Material Engineer in the System and Material Innovation Team you will be leading cross disciplinary work with LEGO Design, R&D, Sourcing, new Material suppliers and key manufacturing Partners to explore new Material Innovation for all products within the LEGO System in Play.
You will be at the forefront of Material Innovation, driving development of new materials and processes and have overall responsibility to explore, uncover and develop new Color and Material opportunities for Innovation across the portfolio, as well as to provoke pioneering Material and Platform Innovation.
Material Technology Innovation: Bring in new Material technology Innovation for hard and soft material to the LEGO play material. Lead exploration drive innovation opportunity areas for new Materials and Processes
Strategy: Play a substantial role in strategizing and deciding what material technologies to pursue for Innovating new play experiences
Prototyping: Work collaboratively with engineers, suppliers, and manufacturers to develop concepts and custom prototypes around incremental, short- and long-term Material Innovation, shown through material samples that will add Novelty to the portfolio.
Supplier Partnerships: Built andmaintainpositive relationships with material suppliers to source innovative materials. Collaborate with external vendors/suppliers and investigate in new Material technologies and developments
Research and Development: Conduct detailed research into merging material technology trends. Stay informed about advancements in Material science and manufacturing techniques.
Collaboration: Partner with the Material Development Team, Product Designer’s, MaterialEngineersand Marketing Teams to communicate across teams and partners.
You willpartof the System and Material Innovation Team and have broad interaction with partners on manydifferent levels, ex. All Design Teams, Design Leadership Team, Operations, Material Development and Specialists.
You should be a proactive and collaborative person and hybrid thinker, able to thinkflexibleand strategically within your own design field as well as across other design subject areas who accept innovation to uncover new insights and possibilities.
**DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?**
We are seeking a candidate with a degree or work experience in science or engineering, and a proventrack recordas a Material Technology Engineer or in Industrial Design with a focus on material manufacturing. The ideal candidate will have shown the ability to work independently, drive projects, and deliver products efficiently. Experience with creative and innovative development processes, as well as material technology innovation and development, is important.
The role requires excellent visual, verbal, and written communication skills, withproficiencyin English to optimally convey new insights to internal and external partners at all levels. Technicalexpertisein new manufacturing processes and a passion for using emerging material technologies are important. A strong knowledge of material properties, material technology, product development, color/finish/texture matching, andmanufacturing implementation is vital. The candidate shouldpossesscreative problem-solving abilities and a passion for innovation, along withproficiencyin prototyping and testing methodologies.
Collaboration is key, as the candidate will work with partners across different departments and use agile ways of working. While notrequired, it is beneficial for the candidate to be curious, proactive, and able to bridge multiple subject areas. Taking initiative,recognizingand acting on opportunities, and the ability to think creatively and challenge the status quo are highly valued traits.
