Credentialed Veterinary Technician - Overnight Relief

VCA TLC is seeking an energetic and experienced Credentialed Veterinary Technician to join our Rock Star team for overnight relief. We are a busy and progressive emergency and general practice veterinary hospital with 10 doctors on staff. Can you think on your feet, handle stressful situations with grace and enjoy working in a fast paced environment?  This exciting full time position is multifaceted, requiring a positive team player who is detailed oriented and has compassion and empathy for pets and people.

In order to thrive in this position we need skilled technicians who have the willingness to learn and grow yet have a strong foundation in veterinary medicine. Our patient's well-being and comfort are always the number-one priority and we are looking for staff who can prioritize patient care. This position requires competency in both quality patient care and offering timely and professional client service.

Job Summary:

The Relief Technician will provide professional and courteous service to ensure that the highest level of client satisfaction and patient treatment are always maintained. Will work closely with other ICU and ICW technicians and assistants in a fast-paced environment. Must be able to assist and train associates and interns.

General Responsibilities:

Perform a variety of highly technical clinical procedures associated with care and treatment of critically ill animals utilizing life support techniques and intensive care procedures and equipment.Ability to communicate efficiently throughout the day with multiple staff members including but not limited to the Criticalists, Specialty Manager, ER doctors, and associates.Administer medications, placement of intravenous catheters, perform venipuncture, cystocentesis, abdominal/thoracic taps, etc. Monitor patients to recovery of anesthetized patients.Nasogastric/nasoesophageal feeding tube placementMaintaining accurate and complete records of vital signs, treatments, procedures, and medical notes associated.Participate/ lead nursing rounds at shift change. Appropriately relay patient signalment, status, plan, and nursing considerations.Maintain the ICU in a state of readiness. Always prepared when the need for CPCR techniques, and emergency therapy arises. To include completion of daily, weekly, and monthly chores. Equipment quality controls,
Inventory, and stocking. Participate in various course curriculum laboratories.Support ER by aiding in the admitting, assessment and emergency stabilization of patients presenting to the emergency service. Provide general information over the phone.Responsible for checking dosage and requested amount, ensuring proper administration and compatibility with other drugs. Proper disposal of any unused drugs. Other related duties as they pertain to the operation of the hospital and emergency and critical careWorking knowledge of equipment used in a veterinary hospital such as fluid pumps, blood gas analyzers, defibrillator, nebulizers, oxygen cages, and anesthesia machines Complete ICU flow sheets for critical care patients as directed by the VeterinarianMaintain cleanliness of ICU area, cages, and runsStock supplies in the ICU areaReceive multiple oral and written patient care instructions and efficiently and accurately perform them in a timely mannerWork together with specialty department teams to provide seamless care of shared patients

Education and Qualifications:

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in veterinary medicine requiredRVT or VTS requiredAbility to work in a highly collaborative environment and commitment to develop long-term relationships with colleagues, clients, and community is required.Positive outlook and ability to work well in a collaborative environment.Excellent communication and organizational skills are required, and the ability to deliver exceptional client service is expected.

Physical Requirements:

Any allergies to animals must be controllable through medication.Must be able to lift 40 pounds.Must be willing to work long or irregular hours under pressure conditions.This position requires the ability to walk, bend, stand and reach constantly during a minimum 8-hour day.Visual acuity sufficient to maintain accurate records, recognizes people and understands written directions.Ability to speak and hear sufficiently to understand, give information in person and over the telephone.Fine motor skills adequate for utilizing office equipment such as computers, telephones, copiers, fax machines, etc.


Compensation: $28-$36 hourly based on skill, experience, shift worked and other determining factors
