Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) Admissions and Advisement Specialist (Academic Program Specialist) **POSITION DETAILS** Founded in 1971 in Long Island City, Queens, LaGuardia Community College is one of seven community colleges of the City University of New York (CUNY). LaGuardia offers more than sixty associate degree programs and more than fifty workforce training, ESOL, GED, and pre-college programs. In 2023, LaGuardia served approximately 24,000 students. More than one-third of LaGuardia’s degree-seeking students are born outside the United States; they come from 136 countries and speak 43 heritage languages. Sixty percent are first-generation college students. Virtually all LaGuardia students are ethnic minorities (89 percent), 58 percent are women, 27 percent are over the age of 25. Forty-six percent of associate degree students are Hispanic. Upon graduation most students transfer to four-year colleges, typically in CUNY, to complete their baccalaureate degrees. Graduates of career programs such as Nursing, Computer Technology, and Veterinary Technology enter the workforce. Please visit www.laguardia.edu to learn more. LaGuardia Community College seeks a Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) Admissions and Advisement Specialist. The Credit for Prior Learning Admissions and Advisement Specialist will be responsible for the following duties: + Collaborates with Academic Affairs, Adult and Continuing Education, and Enrollment Management around CPL inquiries + Advises current students on all issues related to all types of CPL credits applying to the degree program + Works with the registrar to post course equivalencies to CUNYFIRST and T-Rex + Works with the Registrar to maintain and update course equivalency rules in CUNYFIRST + Responsible for intake process, vetting student inquiries, collecting CPL supporting documentation prior to academic department evaluation + Represents LaGuardia’s CPL Office at information and evaluation events + Tracks, maintains, and enters data around CPL inquiries (website, in-person, referrals) from initial intake to completion. + Compiles statistical data around total number of CPL inquiries, total CPL credits awarded, and total number of CPL recipients who matriculated into a degree program at LaGuardia + Assists the Director in the preparation of statistical reports as required + Maintains the database of CPL inquiries and credits and coordinates transmission of this data to appropriate college offices such as academic departments, advisement, registrar’s office (Academic Affairs, Adult and Continuing Education, Enrollment Management) + Refers students to the Faculty Coordinator and academic department for Credit for Prior Learning for further credential evaluation + Tracks student progress, retention, and graduation beyond the awarding of CPL credits. Serves as a liaison for students planning to transfer in order to secure that all CPL credits apply. + Provides general information on CPL and services in person or by telephone, email, or letter + Maintains current information about college programs, Test Credits and degree requirements for test taking students + Performs related duties as assigned **QUALIFICATIONS** Bachelor's Degree and four years' relevant experience required. **PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS** The preferred candidate must demonstrate: + Knowledge around Credit for Prior Learning as an academic process + An understanding of CUNY’s Credit for Prior Learning policy + Exceptional oral and written communication skills + Strong interpersonal skills + Ability to collaboratively interact as a member of a team + Capacity to work efficiently and independently on multiple tasks + A high level of organization and attention to detail + Flexibility and resourcefulness working in a fast-paced environment + Knowledge of applicable software applications: CUNYFIRST/PeopleSoft and Hobson’s, EAB Navigate, Degreeworks, CRM is a plus. **CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW** Participates in the daily coordination of academic and administrative activities of a College's specialized academic program under management direction. - Supports program development, student service delivery, outcome evaluation and instructor/student recruitment, enrollment, and retention. - Recommends, implements and evaluates strategies to expand program offerings - Prepares analytical and statistical reports for management - Develops and maintains relationships with various College offices to improve student and faculty services - Serves as resource expert regarding program policies and procedures - Oversees office recordkeeping; manages updates of program web and print materials - May supervise office operations and/or department budget - Performs related duties as assigned.
