Job Description
The Iowa Department of Public Safety (DPS) is seeking to fill aCriminal Intelligence Analystposition with the Iowa Division of Intelligence and Fusion Center.
Organization Background:
The mission of DPS is to serve the people of Iowa by providing public safety services with leadership, integrity and professionalism through the core values of courtesy, service and protection. The Department is a statewide law enforcement agency and includes the Administrative Services Division, the Iowa State Patrol, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, the Iowa State Fire Marshal and the Division of Intelligence. The Department works in conjunction with federal, state and local jurisdictions of the criminal justice community to provide for the safety of persons living in, or traveling through the State of Iowa.
The DCI Criminalistics Laboratory provides professional forensic scientific services and support to the criminal justice community throughout Iowa. The Lab is accredited through the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) ISO-based Forensic Accreditation Program. The Lab provides forensic science capabilities to the Iowa criminal justice community in the following disciplines: Arson and Explosives, Crime Scene Response/Processing, Breath Alcohol, Drug Identification, DNA (casework and offender profiling), Impression Evidence (latent prints, tire tracks, footwear), Firearms and Tool Marks, Photography and Video Enhancement, Questioned Documents, Toxicology, and Trace Evidence.

Job Description:
Performs tactical criminal intelligence analysis work for law enforcement; researches records and uses computerized databases to conduct investigations based on specific requests for information and provide tactical assistance to law enforcement; identifies investigative leads and deconflicts between agencies investigating related targets; documents and verifies the accuracy and authenticity of information that will be used in criminal trials; may present testimony at preliminary hearing, grand jury proceedings, and trials regarding investigations conducted by the Department, and conducts briefings to present intelligence data to authorized officials.
Performs operational intelligence analysis work by providing direct, critical, front-line intelligence support to ongoing or continuing investigations; prepares graphs, charts, tables, matrices, maps, and other illustrative devices for analysis and visual presentations.
This position is scheduled to work Monday-Friday (8:00 A.M. - 4:30 P.M.) with occasional work on weekends and evenings. Some travel within the State of Iowa is required.
It is essential to have the ability to critically evaluate information from multiple sources and determine the importance and limitations of each piece of information. The position requires the ability to communicate effectively and accurately, in both verbal and written capacity.
A Criminal Intelligence Analyst will provide daily support, research records and computerized databases, and prepare and disseminate written and verbal reports. This position performs tactical and strategic intelligence analysis work with law enforcement partners and disseminates results for the Opioid Data Exchange Project.
Other Information:
Applicants must be able to pass through a background investigation conducted by the Iowa Department of Public Safety.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting experience equal to one year of full-time work which involved the compilation, interpretation and evaluation of criminal investigation or intelligence information for one year of the required education with a maximum substitution of four years;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting experience equal to one year of full-time work experience where the primary emphasis of the job involved research and analysis of data/information and the reporting of results or experience in the investigation of criminal activities for one year of the required education with a maximum substitution of four years.
