Offers may vary depending on the circumstances of each case. **Summary:** The STAT/Acuity RN is highly specialized RN who provides support and direct patient care to a variety of inpatient units and functions across units during peak periods of activity providing episodic nursing care to promote patient flow. The STAT/Acuity RN responds to all levels of care and serves as an expert resource for nursing staff with regards to peripheral IV starts and special procedures or when a unit needs temporary support due to high acuity or increased level of ADT activity (admission, discharge or transfer). The STAT/Acuity RN makes independent decisions/judgments and takes action regarding a wide range of routine and complex patient problems and situations. Manages assignments through autonomous triage and negotiation with multiple units to focus on patient throughput/patient flow. The individual exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures. **Other information:** **Required Job Qualifications:** • Current State of Illinois Registered Nurse licensure. • Baccalaureate degree in nursing. • Progressive experience and/or in Critical Care Nursing and leadership experience· Pediatric Intensive Care Experience desired • Consistent proficient performance at RN 2 position or equivalent experience. • National Certification. • Analytical ability. • Communication skill is required in order to lead and teach. • Interact effectively with others in difficult situations. • The ability to check documents for errors, use a keyboard to enter and retrieve data, and closely examine specimen, images or reports is required. **Preferred Job Qualifications:** • Master's Degree in nursing. **Physical Demands:** • Work requires the ability to walk throughout the Medical Center and to be standing or walking most of the designated shift. • Work requires lifting or carrying objects 30 lbs. and lifting and positioning patients, with appropriate lift equipment • Work conditions include performing procedures where carelessness could result in injury or illness and contact with potentially infectious materials and/or strong chemical agents. **Responsibilities:** Evidence Based Practice • Provides care based on the best evidence available and may participate in research activities within clinical practice. • Participates in unit or organizational shared governance and leadership • Promotes and supports growth of others through precepting and mentoring when appropriate. • Accountable for activities that lead to excellent patient care outcomes through timely, effective, efficient and safe care. Relationship and Caring • Creates an environment, which establishes a caring, therapeutic relationship with patients and families through effective communication, acknowledgement of patient/family perceptions of health and illness and mutual goal setting. • Establishes constructive and strategic partnerships with peers, professional nurses, the University, other disciplines and departments to achieve positive clinical and service outcomes. • Uses leadership, team building, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills to build partnerships within and across units and departments. • Establishes a climate that fosters open communication, values differing points of view and promotes shared governance. • Creates, collaborates, and effectively maintains a just culture for all constituents across disciplines provides a safe environment and promotes quality patient care through adherence to established standards of practice. • Develops a climate that optimizes the patient and family experience through supportive interactions and patient education Critical Thinking • Assesses patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, and cultural and admission/discharge planning needs. • Reviews patient history and physical with patient/family and assures completion within appropriate timeframe. • Reviews available information obtained by other health care team members. • Reviews diagnostics and laboratory data and reports abnormal results to the physician(s) and other appropriate caregivers. • Completes assessment and reassessments according to patient need and as outlined by standards of practice. • Formulates a plan of care, including the discharge plan, utilizing assessment data and patient, data and the medical plan of care. • Goals for patient are realistic, measurable and developed in conjunction with the patient/family. • Considers the physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age specific and educational needs of the patient in the plan of care. • Plan of care is done in collaboration with the patient/family and members of the multidisciplinary team. • Reviews and revises the plan of care to reflect changing patient needs based on evaluation of the patient's status. Implements the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation and supervision of the activities of the health care team. • Provides care based on physician orders and the nursing plan of care, in compliance with policies and procedures, standards of care and regulatory agency requirements. • Plans the delivery of peripheral IV access for patients in coordination with the healthcare team. • Assesses patient/family's complex learning needs related to IV access and therapy. Expedites the delivery of appropriate IV therapy throughout the hospital for complex patient access. • Delegates appropriately, and provides nursing supervision in the provision of care to patients by other unlicensed personnel. • Promotes continuity of care by accurately and completely communicating to other caregivers the status of patients from whom care is provided. • Assists in transporting critical care patients for diagnostic testing/procedures. • Evaluates the patient's and family's responses to care and teaching, and revises the plan of care as needed. • Evaluates patient progress toward goals and expected outcomes in collaboration with the health care team. • Documents assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation in the patient record in accordance with policy. 3.21 • Documentation reflects objective/subjective data, nursing interventions and patient's response to treatment. Notes physician orders accurately and in a timely manner. Technical Expertise • Creates and promotes a culture of safety and accountability. • Articulates standards and monitors compliance with the State Nurse Practice Act, State Board of Nursing Regulation, regulatory agency standards and the policies of the organization. • Demonstrates information literacy skills in complex decision-making Utilizes clinical information systems, i.e., Epic, Teletracking to promote safety, quality and cost effective care. • Strategically plans for ongoing education to acquire new knowledge and skills Leadership • Translates the nursing and corporate vision and strategic plan into measurable goals and sustainable programs. • Creates and maintains a supportive and healthy work environment. • Advances practice through the development of innovations incorporating the principles of change. • Mentors and coaches nursing staff and creates an environment of professional growth. • Serves as a role model whose beliefs, attitudes and actions support unit leadership and goals. • Demonstrates proficient leadership skills at the unit level. • Demonstrates accountability for own professional practice, including progress toward achievement of annual goals.
