CRNA DIRECTOR

PURPOSE OF POSITION

The primary responsibility of the Anesthesia Clinical Manager is to facilitate the provision of quality anesthesia and promote the future growth of anesthesia services.  The role will also be responsible for staff engagement and development within Anesthesia.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS

The Anesthesia Clinical Manager is accountable to the Executive of Anesthesia Operations and the Medical Director of the Department of Anesthesia.

 

Position Qualifications

 

The Anesthesia clinical manager will be:

Full time employee of Aultman Hospital CRNA in good standing with the Department and Corporation Three (3) years’ experience in the Hospital as a CRNA Master’s degree or currently actively pursuing a Master’s degree Member of AANA Effective communication and leadership skills Dedicate 40% of their time to administrative duties for the department and the remaining 60% to direct anesthesia patient care

Position Duties and Responsibilities

Maintain open lines of communication with clinical and operational areas of the hospital and within the department of Anesthesia Work with OHBPC Clinical Advisory Council and leadership to prepare a monthly report for Anesthesia department meeting Work with OHBPC Business Office on Budget and Staffing Initiatives as required Maintain open lines of communication regarding practice, patient and staff issues with anesthesia and Executive leadership Attend the following Organizational/Clinical meetings on a monthly basis: Perioperative Steering Committee OPx Key Performance Indicators APN Credentialing and Peer Review  & Anesthesia P.I. Quality and Operational Committees Leadership Team Meeting Other clinical meetings on an as needed basis Report any impending problems or concerns to Executive of Anesthesia or Medical Director of the Department of Anesthesia Liaison between Department of Anesthesia and other clinical areas Provides management oversight for anesthesia clinical and technical support staff Facilitates coordination of anesthesia resources on a day to day basis Monitor daily Accudose discrepancy report & resolve issues Hold staff accountable to meet departmental and organizational expectations Develop and coordinate staff orientation, ongoing and new competency education plan to meet hospital expectations of role Perform initial FPPE for new staff, addition of a skill or for competency improvement Perform annual/semiannual evaluation appropriate for each staff role Organizational Competency, OPPE, APN Peer, Physician and self- review Coach and council staff to meet standards and expectations of role Ensure consistency of practice amongst CRNAs Coordinate daily assignments of CRNAs and SRNAs with anesthesiologists and Anesthesia Business Office Assist the anesthesiologist in planning breaks, lunches and patient preoperative assessment Promotes improvement of service and efficiencies in anesthesia practice Participate in monthly anesthesia performance Improvement committee to identify staff and practice issues that need to be addressed Monitor and respond to Midas and Aultman Helpline variance reporting to improve patient care Participates in the development of systems and processes for improved productivity Anesthesia assignments Room turnover Clinical documentation accuracy Patient evaluation process Lunch and break assignments; CRNA order out list generation; staffing rotations to all main anesthetizing locations (Main OR, OB, Ancillary areas) Flow of staff to areas of need Case starts on time/early Monitor regulatory and compliance requirements (CMS, JCAHO, FDA (Blood Bank) Ohio Department of Health, etc.) and support the Medical Director of Department of Anesthesia to develop policy and process to integrate into practice Facilitate organizational quality and patient satisfaction initiatives (Press Ganey, HRO, etc.) Work with anesthesiologists to address items related to anesthesia services identified in Medical Staff Committees Continuing education/quality improvement Facilitates continuing education programs in anesthesia for the assigned clinical area for anesthesia and clinical staff areas Monitor tracking of Anesthesia quality and patient satisfaction metrics Assist with the development and implementation of policies and procedures approved by the Anesthesia department and Aultman Hospital as they pertain to the delivery of anesthesia services Support safe and cost-effective utilization of anesthesia supplies, medications and equipment Work with staff and OHBPC Business Director to assure all equipment utilized by Anesthesia department is up to date and in functioning order Support OHBPC Business Director in the development of intermediate and future equipment replacement needs Facilitate a review of practice standards to evaluation new technology for clinical and financial efficacy Works with Anesthesia Office Coordinator for Anesthesia record/chart corrections; Assists to develop CRNA staffing/schedules, oversees CRNA Compliance in regards to coding/billing documentation. Promotes cost effective practice Evaluates current patient care practice for cost saving opportunities Partner with Purchasing, Vendors and the department to evaluate new or alternative equipment and supplies Assure effective staff utilization Collaborates with OHBPC Business Practice manager to assure proper capture of both charges and revenue Assist with recruitment and retention of clinical and technical support staff

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

M-F :  hours as required by the job.  Frequent weekends and off -shifts Subject to frequent interruptions and changes in priority of duties throughout the day Sitting/standing/moving about during working hours
