Job Summary

Optimize the efficient and effective use of Anesthesia resources during daily operation of the Anesthesia Department in accordance with Medical Center policy and direction from the CRNA, Tri-Hospital Chief.
Routinely be available in the department 4-5 days per week.
Maintain managerial/office duties while also being available to provide direct patient care

 

Responsibilities

• Supervise the human and material resources involved with the provision of anesthesia services in accordance with Medical Center policy and medical direction from the Anesthesiologists.

• Schedule and provide for effective coverage for all areas designated as requiring Anesthetist's skills.

• Function as Nurse Clinical Director of the School of Anesthesia.

• Perform clinical anesthesia duties for Nurse Anesthetists.

• Responsible for controlled drug distribution and recording.

• Responsible for quality improvement activities, continuing education, development & tracking of performance planners, providing input on appraisals, and maintaining time card records.

• Maintain department, institution, and licensure (if applicable) required education. Document appropriately.

• Demonstrate positive customer service and co-worker relations.

• Participate in the continuous quality improvement activities of the department and institution.

• Perform work in a cost-effective manner.

• Maintain and coordinate adequate up-to-date inventory of supplies and equipment used in the department.

• Order and maintain properly functioning equipment.

• Maintain systematic, up-to-date files on equipment, maintenance contracts, department policies and procedures, hospital policy and procedures, benefits.

• Coordinate monthly department meetings; coordinating inservices with the school of anesthesia, verify speakers, obtaining equipment for presentations, posting notices of monthly meetings

• In conjunction with the Chief CRNA, prepare and submit the department's operating budget and capital budgets.

• Coordinate appointments with the sales representatives in conjunction with the Chief Nurse Anesthetist and the Anesthesiologists.

• Coordinate with staff and participate in department recruitment and retainment activities.

• Supervise the clinical instruction of SRNAs within the department.

• Ensure that staff CRNAs and Anesthesiologists are appropriately supervising SRNAs during all phases of anesthesia care and in all anesthesia related activities.

• Ensure that appropriate learning opportunities are readily available to SRNAs.

• Ensure that the clinical educational environment is conducive to learning for SRNAs.

• Participation in constructive discussion regarding the SRNA’s clinical performance at the request of the SRNA or anesthesia staff.

• Serve as a first line resource to the Charge CRNA or a second line resource for the SRNA or anesthesia staff in the event a matter related to clinical instruction or clinical evaluation occurs.

• Informing the Chief CRNA, Anesthesia School Faculty and/or Anesthesia School Program Director of pertinent SRNA performance.

The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department’s identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.

Education 

• Doctorate Degree (Required) Education: Doctorate level education preferred, Masters level accepted. Graduate of an accredited nurse anesthesia training program with current NBCRNA certification. Nursing degree from an accredited associate or bachelor degree program. Experience: 3 years as a certified registered nurse anesthetist
