Primary Role

The Cross Connection Specialist is responsible for the administration of the state cross connection control program to ensure compliance with environmental regulations relating to cross connections and backflow prevention.

Key Accountabilities Serves as the first point of contact for customers, network staff and cross connection staff. Provide day-to-day administrative support: compose correspondence, research accounts, answer customer phone calls and perform data entry. Assists the Sr. Specialist and/or Supervisor in coordinating the local enforcement of the cross connection control program to ensure compliance with regulations, company tariffs, and the American Water cross connection best operating procedure (BOP). Prepares data requests and reports in the ORCOM cross connection control system. Maintains records and files of backflow device test reports, surveys, and inspection reports. Knowledge/Skills Good to excellent working knowledge of all Federal, State and local requirements for Cross Connection and Backflow Prevention regulations, guidance or statutes. Experience/Education High school diploma required; associates degree preferred. One (1) to two (2) years education or working knowledge of regulations and program essentials. Travel Requirements Local and occasional overnight travel to districts may be required. Work Environment Substantial time may be spent in the field visiting customers, answering questions on backflow device installation, and performing site inspections.
