Private Markets is a rapidly growing set of asset classes across the globe, with material growth being experienced by GP fund sponsors, ambitious expansion of portfolio allocations into the asset classes by LP’s, and a proliferation of new product types and private investments being held in public vehicles. The ability to successfully face off with investment managers, investors and allocators in this space requires deep knowledge across scores of fund structures and investment types, expertise in complex allocations and waterfall calculations, global fund and distribution awareness, and all of these skills must be brought to bear to create and deliver solutions for clients in an increasingly complex private markets ecosystem. Equity is the largest sub-segment of the Private Markets industry. Private equity investments are increasingly housed in a variety of legal entity structures that go beyond the traditional GP/LP structure, including fund-of-funds, GP stakes funds, secondaries funds, and semi-liquid vehicles. Moreso than any other Private Markets sub-asset class, private equity funds also tend to have their fund accounting and recordkeeping self-administered within the Investment Manager’s operation.
