Crystal Growth Engineer

Coherent is looking for a Crystal Growth Engineer for our Hillsborough, NJ facility.  Person must have experience in leading edge materials research in an academic or industrial environment as well as experience and/or educational understanding of physical principles underlying optical materials/crystals.

Responsibilities include:

Plan and conduct engineering tests and detailed experimental testing to verify process efficacy, prove hypotheses or characterize material qualityOrganize and write machine/process and qualification proceduresOperate and maintain crystal growth equipment for production and R&D and process development purposesAssist in the design, construction, test and check-out of crystal growth and test equipmentUse manufacturing test, development or diagnostic equipmentPerform operational test and fault isolation on systems and equipment    

Education and Work Experience:               

Minimum Qualifications:

Masters in materials science or related disciplineMinimum of 5 years of hands on experience in at least 1 method of crystal growth with emphasis on techniques for bulk congruent materials (Czochralski, Kyropoulos, Bridgman)Experience with analytical equipment for optical/physical material characterizationExperience working from schematics, diagrams, written, and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform testing, checkout and trouble-shooting functionsProven understanding of optical material principles

Desired Qualifications:

PhD in materials science or related disciplineHands on experience in various methods of crystal growth (Czochralski and Liquid Phase Epitaxy)Experience in materials preparation and synthesisExperience with common materials characterization techniques (SEM, XRD, GDMS, XRF, etc)Experience using Solid works, Labview, Macros for ExcelStrong project management skillsStrong research analytical skillsAbility to plan, organize and multitask across multiple projects to utilize time efficientlyStrong communication skills in team meetings, presentations and comprehensive reportsAbility to work independently and to interface with large teams, working across departmental/discipline boundaries   

Working Conditions

Factory environment. which includes equipment in an open floor setting and in a cleanroom environment.   All locations are temperature and humidity controlled. 

Safety Requirements

All employees are required to attend scheduled training, follow the site EHS procedures and Coherent Corporate EHS standards.  This includes the use of proper protective equipment (PPE) as required by the job responsibilities.

Managers will ensure their team adheres to all Site and Corporate safety and environmental procedures and policies. They will ensure that risk assessments are performed and that proper training, work instructions and PPE is provided.
