Position Purpose:

CST Residency provides students in their last semester of Surgical Technology programs the opportunity to earn money while completing clinical hours in operating rooms throughout Saint Alphonsus Health System. Under the supervision of Certified Surgical Technologists, CST residents will assist in the Main OR practicing skills, experiencing a variety of surgical cases, and expanding their learning. Students have the opportunity to work on a variety of service lines, including trauma, as Saint Alphonsus is the region's only Level II Trauma Center.

After completing the CST Program and certifying with the NBSTSA or NCCT, residents may have the opportunity to transfer to a certified CST position.

Schedule Information and Benefits:

Flexible Schedule: Position will be scheduled for part-time hours and will vary based on department needs.Day 1 Benefits! Colleagues are eligible for benefits such as medical, vision and dental insurance from their very first day of work.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must maintain current enrollment in a Certified Scrub Technologist Program and be within 9 months of graduation.

At hire, Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is required. (ACLS and/or PALS may be accepted in lieu of BLS)

What you will do:

Demonstrates knowledge and skills to competently care for all assigned age groups (Neonate, Child, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric as applicable).

Demonstrates compliance with hospital safety policies and procedures.Performs only those skills within their scope of practice and under the supervision of a Certified Surgical Technologist.Demonstrates safe operation of patient care equipment.Demonstrates knowledge of cautery safety (grounding pad and cautery use during procedure).Recognizes breaks in aseptic technique and takes immediate corrective action.Demonstrates equipment checks to assure proper functioning.Updates and reviews surgeon preference cards.Able to gown and glove other members of the perioperative 'sterile' team.Able to gown and glove self through use of closed and open method.Manages instrument, sponge and sharp counts for all procedures assigned with supervision.Assists and/or follows direction of the RN Circulator to set up a room and obtain equipment, etc.
