CT Scan Technologist - per diem
Position Summary: The computerized tomography technologist, under the direction of a radiologist and Radiology Manager with minimum supervision, must maintain the daily function of the Computerized Axial Tomography Department. Performs job functions of Radiology Technologist. Education, License & Cert: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Certified Radiology Tech. Experience: Prior experience desired. Essential Functions: Performs a variety of technical procedures, including the control of ionizing radiation producing equipment for radiological diagnosis. Responsible for documenting occurrences in CT. Initiates service calls for all equipment. Follows through on all repairs until completion. Initiates the scanning procedure at the proper anatomical level. Checks prescription/request, provisional diagnosis, hospital chart and patient identification. Explains the procedure to the patient, means of communication during scan and procedure to follow, if emergency arises during scanning procedure. Advises the patient of the possibility and/or necessity of an intravenous contrast injection and the precautions or contra indications involved with such an injection Prepares room and equipment according to anatomical area to be scanned, per request and history. Change to appropriate gantry wedges, select kilovoltage and proper detector levels. Selects correct computer program and initiate scan maintaining visual and/or audible communication with the patient during the scanning procedure. Performs all CT scan procedures according to established protocols, with efficiency. Reviews and QC's all images prior to sending to PACS. Transfers the patient safely to the scanner couch, being especially cognizant of catheters, intravenous bottles, respiration aids, areas of recent trauma and patient level of consciousness or mental state. Immobilizes, packs and centers patient to scanner gantry at appropriate anatomical level. Prepares medium and patient for intravenous injection of contrast material in amount prescribed by radiologist. Monitors patient's condition during and post injection and must be aware of reaction and/or distress signals associated with the injection of contrast materials. Approaches and solicits the cooperation of the psychiatric patient, i.e., manic depressive, paranoid schizophrenic, mental retardation and senility. Monitors scanner systems for program errors, correction of same or notification of repair facility. Performs all appropriate clerical duties, i.e., paperwork, filing, phone calls for stats. Assists in scheduling exams, and gives proper patient preparations. Assures all documentation required is complete and appropriate. Performs any order verification/correction according to policy. Trains assigned personnel and evaluates their progress. Maintains radiation protection for patients, staff, and self according to safety standards. Utilizes proper shielding. Adjusts technical factors in proportion to patient and body part being examined, while minimizing radiation. Verifies patients by checking wristbands and/or chart. Maintains working knowledge of computer functions, i.e. “Exam Revision,” “Cancellation,” “Exam Data Entry,” etc. Charges each exam with accuracy in a timely fashion. Maintains working knowledge of PACS system and related programs. Establishes patient and procedure priorities and protocols. Coordinates all CT activities independently and effectively. Coordinates patient management activities with Director of Radiology as needed. Ensures that CT environment is safe for both patient and operator. i.e. equipment operates correctly, fire extinguisher is current, and maintenance schedule is current. Coordinates and assists in all CT QA processes. Assures all CT staff is in compliance with hospital/department policies. Other Duties: Prepares appropriate films/CDs and other material to be sent to referring physicians. Monitors room temperature in order to shut down scanner, if temperatures are in excess of pre‐�established standards in order to avoid equipment failure. Coordinates inter hospital transport of patients via ambulance. Performs "warm up" of scanner, including a system test scan, histogram and the recording of same in the daily log. Observes all appropriate radiation safety measures for patients and personnel. Complete understanding of the functionality of the IDXrad computer system as it relates to your area.
