JOB SUMMARY
The complex nature of disease processes involves multiple imaging modalities.  The RT-CT performs the computed tomography examination that creates the images needed for diagnosis.  RT-CTs integrate scientific knowledge and technical skills with effective patient interaction to provide quality patient care and useful diagnostic information.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The Radiologic CT Technologist must demonstrate an understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology and medical terminology.  RT-CTs must maintain a high degree of accuracy in radiographic positioning and radiation exposure technique.  Maintains knowledge of  radiation protection and safety.  RT-CTs must prepare for and assist the radiologist in the completion of intricate CT examinations, including a range of tissue biopsies and fluid drainages.  Prepare and administer contrast media in accordance with state and federal regulations.  RT-CTs are the primary liaison between patients and radiologists and other members of the support team.  They must remain sensitive to the physical and emotional needs of the patient through good communication, patient assessment, patient monitoring and patient care skills.  RTs use professional and ethical judgment and critical thinking when performing their duties.  CT quality improvement and customer service allow the RT-CT to be a responsible member of the healthcare team by continually assessing professional performance.  RT-CTs embrace continuing education for optimal patient care, public education and enhanced knowledge and technical competence.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Associates’s Degree in Radiology.  Certificate and/or Advanced Specialized or Technical Training in Radiologic Technology-accredited by JRCERT required.

MINIMUM YEARS OF EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
None

REQUIRED LICENSE, REGISTRY OR CERTIFICATION
1.  Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or registry-eligible in both radiography and CT Scanning.  To maintain ARRT certification, a level of expertise and awareness of changes and advances in practice, RTs must complete 24 hours of appropriate continuing education every two (2) years in each area of registry.
2.  Licensed in Radiologic Technology by the Department of Environmental Protection of the State of New Jersey.
