Job Description
The Cultural Ambassador is responsible for the daily operation of the resort’s Cultural Center, and promotes the education of resort guests, employees and visitors to Kona Village, A Rosewood Resort.
RESPONSIBILITIES:Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies, service procedures and standards.Ensure that standards are maintained at a superior level on a daily basis.Provide a genuine sense of Aloha and hospitality to the employees and guests of the Resort.Promote a warm, friendly and safe atmosphere. Be an ambassador of the property at all times; both on and off-site.Address guest concerns and requests quickly and follow them through to completion.Inspect the cultural facilities on a daily basis to ascertain any maintenance, repairs or cleanup needs etc.Support the Cultural Manager with the planning and execution of all cultural events like blessings, workshops etc.Facilitate Cultural Events at the resort like hula; canoe carving; and cultural demonstrations at the resort.Participate in community relations endeavors, such as Malama Aina Days, KMLAC Projects etc.Participate in meetings with the Cultural Advisory Group, when required.Be present, when possible, for important events at the resort: groundbreakings, blessings, anniversaries, employee orientations.Attend training/gatherings around the Hawaiian Islands with groups that promote Hawaiian Cultural Education and Values.Care for archives that have been recovered on property. See to their care and storage and periodic inventory and maintenance/restoration. Support the Cultural Manager with creating close relationships with public and private schools, colleges and universities. Welcome and entertain groups visiting the Cultural Center for planned educational programming.Participate in the execution of authentic and respectful Luau performances and programming.Execute an interactive cultural activities schedule for resort guests with emphasis on both adults and keiki. Periodically reviews the correct and appropriate use of Hawaiian language, artwork etc. throughout the resort.Provides training to other associates on cultural matters. Ensures quality, fire and life safety standards are fully implemented.All other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience: Minimum 2 years in a similar role ideally on the Big Island. Strong knowledge of Hawai’ian language, history and culture. Must be an exemplary respected part of the community.
Education: Minimum high-school diploma.
General Skills: Must be able to perform job functions with attention to detail, speed and accuracy; prioritize, organize and follow-up; be a clear thinker, remaining calm and resolving problems using good judgment; follow directions thoroughly; understand a guest’s service needs; work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team; work with minimal supervision; maintain confidentiality of guest information and pertinent hotel data.
Technical Skills: Must be proficient in the use of computers and mobile devices. Should be able to use Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint efficiently.
Language: Required to speak, read and write English and Hawai’ian, with fluency in other languages preferred.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to exert physical effort in transporting 30 pounds, endure various physical movements throughout the work areas, reach up and down, remain stationary at times throughout work periods, and satisfactorily communicate with guests and co-workers to their understanding.
Licenses & Certifications: Not required.
Salary: $24.72/hour
