How You Will Contribute
The Department of Modern & Contemporary Art is seeking a qualified Curatorial Intern interested in gaining work experience in a museum context. The intern will primarily support the organization of the department’s new library and file space, which includes working closely with the Collections Assistant on the upkeep of the Department’s permanent collection artwork files, conducting artist and collection research, and reviewing and cataloguing publications for the Modern & Contemporary library. Projects will entail opportunities to work closely with the museum’s Library and Archives, learn to use the PMA’s collection database (TMS), and support an active curatorial team with various research needs.
This internship is paid and will require two days a week in person.
Specifically, you will:
+ Support the department with the organization and creation of files for artworks, artists, and outgoing loans.
+ Assist with cataloguing and reorganization of department library.
+ Review and organizing past digital and paper exhibition materials.
+ Assist with other administrative and research functions as needed.
Your background and experience include:
+ BA degree (completed or in progress) in art history, curatorial/museum studies or library science; knowledge and/or interest in art after 1900 a plus
+ Strong research and writing skills
+ Excellent communication skills
+ Ability to work well independently
+ Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel and/or data entry preferred
Position and Compensation Details
+ The hourly rate for this position is $16.75.
+ This position is Part-Time, Non-Exempt, and 14 hours per week.
+ This position reports to the Modern and Contemporary Department Head.
+ This is a 15-week term position beginning at the commencement of the internship.
+ Physical requirements:
+ Able to remain stationary for extended periods of time, to utilize computers and other office equipment required of this job, to perform physically administrative duties in a typical interior office environment, gallery, or exhibit space, and to access most public and staff areas of the museum campus
+ Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
+ Background check required after a conditional job offer is made. Consideration of the background check will be tailored to the requirements of the job.
