Job Overview
The Custodial Supervisor directs building cleaning and related services in responsibilities that include but are not limited to:
Ensures custodial staff are scheduled and assigned to various buildings and/or areas, inspects work to ensure satisfactory performance, takes action to correct deficiencies, and takes necessary steps to meet special requirements or circumstancesSupervises staff and when necessary, performs tasks assigned to custodiansEnsures that services are consistent and at a high level of quality by providing adequate training, supervising the production work, and emphasizing the proper use of chemicals and equipment and the importance of quality control Coordinates issues promptly and thoroughly with the Manager of Custodial ServicesRoutinely updates their own industry-level knowledge, under the supervision of the Director, and routinely trains their staff on cleaning protocols for COVID-19 disinfecting procedures, products and equipment; and directs staff engaged in disinfecting procedures in the workplaceUnderstands and routinely responds to the needs the customers and building contactsDemonstrates a willingness to serveWork Interactions and Work Mode Designation
The Custodial Supervisor reports to the Director of Custodial and Grounds, along with a Night Operations Manager, an Athletic and Events Director, Events Supervisor, a Day Custodial Supervisor, an Evening Custodial Supervisor, two other Residential Custodial Supervisors and a Weekend Custodial Supervisor.
In turn, the Custodial Supervisor directs the work of 10 to 15 Custodians and 1 to 2 one to two Floor Care Specialists in an area of responsibility covering 300,000 to 450,000 square feet of space. Working during the day shift hours, they ensure buildings are maintained and emergencies are handled promptly and expertly.
They serve as a representative for the University Facilities Department to the university community and visitors; as called upon, lead and/or participate in department and college-wide committees; and participate as a member of a team demonstrating a willingness to be flexible with personal and staff schedule to accommodate emergency situations such as staffing shortages and snow removal.
The Custodial Supervisor acts in a professional manner, carries proper identification and complies with University and department policies and procedures.
