Summary This position is assigned to the Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) Sports and Fitness Division (N921) Branch; Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) Recreational Fleet and Family Readiness Support Services (N94); Commander, Navy Region Hawaii, at Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam (JBPHH), Honolulu, HI. The purpose of this position is to provide adequate and timely custodial services to the Sports and Fitness operation; Pier Side Fitness. Responsibilities II. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Duties include, but are not limited to: Scrubs, strips, waxes, and polishes floors using heavy (industrial type) powered scrubbers and buffers. Vacuum cleans rugs, using heavy (industrial type) vacuum cleaner. Adjusts, cleans, and oils these machines, and changes brushes, rollers, buffers, and other attachments on them. Washes and replaces venetian blinds, changes light bulbs and washes ceiling fixtures and room partitions, using ladders and scaffolds. Moves heavy furniture, supplies and equipment. In living quarters, makes beds, changes linens and collects soiled linen. Keeps rest rooms in clean, orderly, and sanitary condition. Cleans, disinfects, and deodorizes lavatories, urinals, and toilet bowls. Cleans mirrors, sinks, and water fountains. Dusts ledges and woodwork. Replaces deodorizers, toilet tissue, hand towels, and soap. Maintains a stock of cleaning materials and equipment and notifies supervisor when more are needed. Provide services to MWR customers, which includes, but is not limited to checking ID cards to ensure authorized use of recreation facilities, resources and equipment, providing information about activities and program offerings, opening and closing facilities, ordering and restocking supplies. Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge Required by the Position Knowledge and skill sufficient to read signs, follow simple oral and written instructions. Ability to work safely while moving lightweight objects. Ability to use powered equipment and perform minor maintenance on this equipment. Ability to learn Material Safety Data Sheets. Supervisory Controls The supervisor of this position is the Fitness Center Manager. The supervisor sets general overall program and management objectives, but the employee is expected to carry out assignments independently. Works under general supervision, following established policies and procedures. Supervisor issues general instructions and explains how work is to be completed. Refers to supervisor or higher-grade leadership about problems and actions requiring deviation from established procedures. Supervisor spot checks work for adherence to established methods and procedures. Guidelines Guidelines for work performance include Department of Defense (DOD), Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC), Navy Region and Installation instructions, policies and SOP's, security regulations, safety procedures, and established practices. Both written and oral guidelines are specific, complete, and apply to work assignments. Complexity Custodial workers may work various shifts. The incumbent, over a period of time, may be required to work each shift and must be trained to accomplish a variety of tasks. The incumbent will be trained in program standards and is expected to have knowledge of the Fitness Program. The incumbent may be required to work directly with customers, supervisors and contacts from other departments to obtain answers to questions, or to handle situations. Scope and Effect The purpose of this position is to provide custodial services. The work directly contributes to the military members, retirees, civilians, and family member's quality of life, mission readiness, and contributes to job satisfaction and retention of valuable members. Personal Contacts Incumbent makes contacts and works closely with MWR/N9 staff, fire and safety personnel, command officials, vendors, fitness center agencies, and customers in support of the Fitness Program. Purpose of Contacts Contacts are for such purposes as providing and exchanging information, complying with policy and directives, ensuring program meets the needs of the customers and assessing interests of patrons for MWR programs. Physical Demands This position is required to do considerable standing, bending, walking, pushing, pulling, climbing, and a variety of repetitive motions. Must have ability to perform moderately strenuous physical labor as unassisted lifting, moving and carrying of supplies and equipment weighing up to 45 pounds is required. Assisted lifting, moving and carrying up to 100 pounds may be required. May be required to climb/descend stairs and properly placed stepladders. Position may require irregular working hours. Incumbent may be required to work evenings and weekends. Work Environment Work performed both indoors and outdoors, without a fixed schedule. Incumbent may be required to work early, late, and on weekends and holidays when the need arises. Incumbent wears protective clothing and equipment as situations warrant. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Resumes must include information which demonstrates experience and knowledge, skills, and ability (KSAs) as they relate to this position. A qualified candidate must possess: Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques and common chemicals used in cleaning. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both verbally and in writing with management, staff and guests. Must be able to perform moderately strenuous physical labor as unassisted lifting, moving and carrying of supplies and equipment weighing up to 45 pounds is required. Must be flexible to work nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed. May be recalled to duty and/or required to work overtime including emergency basis. May be required to possess valid state driver license. Applicants will be notified when this is a requirement for appointment. Education This position does not have a positive education requirement.
