We are fully accredited by the Association for Accreditation and Assessment of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC). Our vision is to pioneer in laboratory animal care, driving research innovations from bench to bedside. The Veterinary Service Center within the Department of Comparative Medicine is seeking a full time Custodian to perform the following duties and responsibilities (but not limited to):Clean and sanitize restrooms and locker rooms, empty wastebaskets and trash containers including those containing hazardous waste; Clean, mop, wash and vacuum a variety of floors, floor coverings, ceilings, guard rails using light cleaners, waxers, buffers, etc.; Dust and clean a variety of building furnishings, such as lamps, mirrors, door and window glass and fixtures, and furniture;Additional duties as assigned, such as, distributing supplies, washing and vacuuming department vehicles; Maintain outside walk areas including sweeping debris and washing walkways and loading dock areas; Report needed building and equipment repairs in a timely manner. **DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:** **High School Diploma or Equivalent** **EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):** One year previous custodial experience preferred or a combination of equivalent education and experience. **KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):** + Good written and oral communication skills in English; ability to communicate effectively and cooperatively with co-workers, guests, other departments, and management. · Knowledge of cleaning and waxing methods, materials and equipment used in industrial cleaning is desirable but may be learned on the job. · Knowledge of custodial safety procedures. · Ability to read, understand, properly prepare, store, and use all chemicals and maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) manual on cleaning chemicals. · Ability to learn and apply safe work practices, including hazardous waste management and handling, injury and illness prevention program, confined space procedures, and safe chemical practices. · Demonstrated ability to provide a positive service attitude and approach to students, faculty, staff, and visitors to the university. · Ability to be respectful of residents and co-worker’s privacy and property.
