Georgetown University is seeking a Custodian to join our team.

Position #: P22284 

Full-time: 40 hours

Schedule: Sunday - Thursday, 10:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.

Pay: $17.53 per hour plus an additional $1.00 per hour as a night shift differential hour

Location: Main Campus, 3700 “O” Street, Washington, DC

Job Overview

In accordance with a detailed cleaning plan, the Custodian performs general and specific cleaning and maintenance tasks to provide a clean, safe and pleasant physical environment, as well as other tasks as assigned in emergency or unusual situations - all in accordance with specific guidance from supervisor.  Examples of additional work to be performed include but are not limited to snow and ice removal, clean up associated with water or fire damage and special event support. 

The Custodian is expected to clean up to 28,000-35,000 square feet of cleanable space per eight hour work day.  Performance of duties involves using standard tools, equipment, materials and supplies of the trade and observance of all safety rules, regulations and precautions.

Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation

The Custodian reports directly to one of the Custodial Supervisors (one of four night supervisors, one of three Residential Custodial Supervisors, an Evening Custodial Supervisor, a Day Custodial Supervisor, or a Weekend Custodial Supervisor).  They may report indirectly to a Night Operations Manager, depending on the shift assigned.

The Custodian works alone or with others, performing essential or non-essential tasks as assigned by supervisor.  They also perform assignments made by the Manager of Custodial Services and/or the Night Operations Manager. 

Under certain circumstances - including but not limited to, emergency snow removal, spills and flooding, the Custodian performs assignments made by the Work Management Center, the Director of Facilities Management, the Resource Manager, the Infrastructure Manager, and other department managers.

The Custodian's work constitutes a direct service of the department to ensure a comfortable, safe and clean environment in which the University community can live, learn and work.

The incumbent represents the department with the University community and its visitors. 

They are expected to behave in a professional manner; to keep informed of departmental and University rules, regulations and guides pertaining to employment obligations, including complying with attendance and clock in and out on time; work with other University Facilities staff as part of a team; and be flexible with schedule to accommodate emergency situations, such as staffing shortages and snow removal.

This position has been designated as On Campus. Qualifications

High School diploma or GED preferredOne year of custodial work experience preferredPossession of a valid and current driver’s license from Maryland, Virginia, or the District of ColumbiaA basic knowledge of English, including the ability to read, write and speak English with understanding in order to read and understand product label instructions and University policies and proceduresAbility able to relate custodial and maintenance problems clearly to supervisor and/or the Work Management Center

The candidate selected must complete a post-hire training program in building cleaning.
