Requirements
The Custodian Supervisor supervises custodial staff by directing building cleaning and related services. They ensure that custodial staff is scheduled and assigned to various buildings and/or areas, inspect work to ensure satisfactory performance, take action to correct deficiencies, and take necessary steps to meet special requirements or circumstances. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:
Supervise staff, performing tasks assigned to custodians when necessary.
Ensure that services provided are consistent and at a high level of quality through adequate training, supervision of production work, and emphasizing proper use of chemicals, equipment and the importance of quality control.
Coordinate issues promptly and thoroughly with the manager of custodial services.
Use industry level knowledge, routinely updating themselves (under the supervision of the Director) and training their staff on cleaning protocols for COVID-19 disinfecting procedures, products and equipment.
Direct staff engaged in disinfecting procedures in the workplace, understanding the needs of the customers and building contacts to routinely respond to their needs.
Serve as a representative for the University Facilities department to the university community and visitors, acting in a professional manner, carrying proper identification, and complying with University and department policies and procedures.
Serve as a member of a team demonstrating a willingness to be flexible with personal and staff schedule to accommodate emergency situations such as staffing shortages and snow removal.
Work Interactions
This position reports to the Director of Custodial and Grounds along with a Night Operations Manager, a Athletic and Events Director, Events Supervisor, a Day Custodial Supervisor, an Evening Custodial Supervisor, two other Residential Custodial Supervisor and a Weekend Custodial Supervisor. Reporting directly to this position are ten to fifteen custodians and one to two floor care specialists. The incumbent and staff work during the day shift hours to ensure buildings are maintained and emergencies are taken care of. The incumbent’s area of responsibility will cover 300,000 to 450,000 square feet of space. May be called upon to lead and/or participate in department and college wide committees.
Requirements and Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent; College Degree preferred
Five years of custodial experience
Some plant operation maintenance experience is helpful
Has a demonstrable knowledge of the chemistry behind the cleaning process and keeps pace with the changing technology and its application
Some computer literacy helpful
Required to have a valid District of Columbia, Maryland or Virginia driver’s license
Requires a basic knowledge of English including the ability to read, write and speak English with understanding
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally while working as part of a team
Must have the ability to act independently and exercise mature judgement
Should have the capability to analyze relevant operational issues and identify solutions
Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required

Pay Range:
The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$41,926.00 - $65,090.00Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
