Job Concepts
FUNCTION OF WORK:
To supervise multiple custodial work units in order to maintain the cleanliness, sanitary conditions, and appearance of state buildings, facilities, institutions, etc.
LEVEL OF WORK:
Supervisor.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
General from a Custodian Manager. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Direct over Custodian Supervisors A. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.
LOCATION OF WORK:
All state agencies.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Custodian Supervisor A by the presence of direct supervisory responsibility for multiple custodial work units.
Differs from Custodian Manager by the absence of managerial responsibility for custodial operations.
Examples of Work
50% Supervision
+ Supervises 8 to 15 Custodians performing cleaning maintenance in buildings having between 160,000 - 300,000 square feet
+ Conducts in-service training for Custodians in the general methods of custodial cleaning, and department policies
+ Maintains performance documentation of subordinate custodians assigned to his/her group. Completes Performance Planning and Review documents according to Civil Service guidelines.
+ Assist subordinate custodians with cleaning responsibilities, performs work for subordinates when they are on leave.
+ Makes recommendations to director concerning new cleaning solutions, floor maintenance, or other related issues
+ Performs related duties necessary for the proper cleaning maintenance of assigned facilities
+ Communicate in an effective and efficient manner with peers, custodial leadership, Physical Plant leadership, faculty and other university leaders.
10% Classrooms
+ Empty all waste cans, wipe waste can clean of any spilt liquids and insert new liner
+ Clean chalk/white boards including rails
+ Dust and or wipe down mounted displays, doors, door frames, chairs, desk, and windowsills (horizontal surfaces)
+ Clean windows or other glass of as needed, but not less than once weekly
+ Dust blinds as needed
+ Clean heater/air conditioner vents and grills
+ Clean, wipe down walls
+ Dust mop floors, spot mop daily and complete mop not less than once every other week
+ Arrange desk back in order
10% Office
+ Empty all waste cans, wipe can clean and insert new liner
+ Dust and or wipe down mounted displays, doors, door frames, chairs, desk, and windowsills (horizontal surfaces) DO NOT DISTURB OR CLEAN PERSONAL ITEMS OR DISPLAYS IN OFFICES
+ Clean windows or other glass as needed but not less than once weekly
+ Clean heater/air conditioner vents and grills
+ Dust mop floors, spot mop daily and complete mop not less than once every other week
10% Laboratories
+ Empty all waste cans, wipe can clean and insert new liner
+ Clean tops of lab tables, where permitted
+ Clean chalk/white boards including rails
+ Dust and or wipe down cabinets, mounted displays, doors, door frames, chairs, desk, and window sills
+ Dust blinds as needed
+ Clean heater/air conditioner vents and grills
+ Clean, wipe down walls
+ Dust mop floors, spot mop daily and complete mop not less than once every other week
10% Entrances, Hallways and Stairs
+ Empty waste cans, wipe can clean and insert new liner
+ Clean heater/air conditioner vents and grills
+ Clean windows, door glass, or other glass daily
+ Vacuum floor mats daily
+ Clean, wipe down walls
+ Dust mop floors, spot mop daily and complete mop not less than once every other week
+ Sweep stairs, spot mop daily and complete mop not less than once every other week
+ Clean stair handrails
+ Clean, wipe down walls
5% Restrooms
+ Empty waste cans, wipe can clean and insert new liner
+ Clean all ledges, partitions and doors. Remove graffiti as soon as possible
+ Clean mirrors not less than once daily with approved cleaner
+ Clean and disinfect lavatories not less than once daily with approved cleaner, including pipes underneath
+ Clean and disinfect toilets and urinals at least once daily with appropriate cleaners
+ Keep soap, tissue, and towel dispensers stocked
+ Sweep and mop floor as needed, but not less than once daily
5% Other
+ Perform other duties that may be assigned periodically, by the Custodial Manager, Director of Physical Plant, or Executive Leadership of the University.
