Essential Responsibilities
Analyzing customer applications/specifications and designing protection and control panel mechanical layout, single line diagram, schematic diagram, power diagram, control diagram and Bill of Materials, engineering instruction, wiring drawing, wire list, wire tags to fulfill user specifications and requirements using Autocad/Ebase/OracleTake full responsibility to assigned projects with minor support from Senior Lead Application EngineerPerform engineering studies and analyses such as short circuit studies, protective device coordination, load flow, motor starting, etc.Designing control logic solutions to meet customer requests that may include complex control schemes such as Transfer schemes, Synchronizing schemes and Auto-restoration schemesFabricate relay setting files to include programming of Protection and Control Elements, Control Logic and Communications settingsTesting of customized Protection and Control solutions both in house and at customer installationsProvide field support up to and including commissioning of new applications.Analyze and troubleshoot field cases involving GE Multilin/other Protection and Control products.Provide training/peer check/design support to other members of the team.Provide training materials/video of Ebase to help other members of the teamRequired Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical EngineeringMinimum 5 years’ working experience in panel design, analyzing and creation of single line diagram, schematic diagram, control diagram and power diagram related to relay protections and control using Autocad/Ebase with detailed knowledge of design, studies, specifications and implementation in electrical generation, transmission and distribution systemsAbility and willingness to travel up to 40% of the timeHave legal authorization to work in Canada and be aware that any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a pre-employment verification.Desired Characteristics
Excellent knowledge of power systems, protection schemes and communication applicationsExperience in creation of test procedure and maintenance procedure related to factory and site testing and commissioning protection panel.Ability to apply advanced ideas in the technical engineering field to practical business problemsExperience in programming the GE Multilin family/other of relays, specifically the UR Family/otherExperience in designing power system control schemes (Transfer Schemes, Auto-restoration Schemes)Excellent understanding of theoretical bases for all major protection principles including Distance, Line Differential, Transformer Differential, Bus, Feeder, Generator and Large Motor protection.Demonstrated team player, initiative to take the lead and mentoring of other members of the team.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work in a multicultural environment.Customer focusedExperience in turn-key Protection and Control projectsDemonstrated record in developing protection and control applicationsWorking knowledge of major test sets and short-circuit / setting coordination softwareWorking knowledge of RTDS, ASPEN, EMTP and MATLABFamiliarity with standard work and documentation procedures of electrical utilitiesInterdisciplinary experience including metering, communications, substation automation and integrationAbility to present training courses and write technical papersKnowledge and experience with GE Digital Energy and 3rd Party Protection Relay productsWorking knowledge with EPLAN panel design toolStrong understanding and experience with CSA, UL and CE requirementsLean/6 Sigma Green belt or Black belt certification preferredP.Eng Certified is an assetAdditional InformationRelocation Assistance Provided: No
