The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Certified Customs Broker with extensive ocean import experience to lead the ocean department and join the imports team. The ideal candidate is friendly, organized, tech-savvy, hardworking, and eager to take on new challenges.
In this role, you will assist Canadian importers in navigating federal regulations for all transportation modes. You will need a strong understanding of CBSA rules and regulations and the ability to accurately categorize and classify shipments using the HTS tariff coding system while delivering exceptional customer service.

Responsibilities Ensure accurate and timely release of SWI/IID shipments across various transport modes, ensuring proper classification, rating, and clearance. Verify documentation for compliance (e.g., Free Trade Agreement certificates) and liaise with clients/carriers to address any missing information. Maintain strong relationships with clients and carriers. Prioritize and manage tasks according to client demands, customs requirements, and company standards. Continuously assess and improve department processes for greater efficiency. Conduct HTS tariff reviews, approve updates, and release billing information as required. Advocate for customers by resolving issues and ensuring high service standards. Collaborate with team members in daily operations, including scheduling, decision-making, and special projects.
Qualifications Minimum five years of ocean customs brokerage experience. CCS/CTCS certification or equivalent is required. Strong technical knowledge of tariff classification and customs regulations, including rules of origin, valuation, trade agreements, and import regulatory requirements. Familiarity with Participating Government Agency (PGA) requirements. Ability to assess customs risk exposure and ensure compliance. Advanced Excel skills and experience. Strong time management skills and ability to work independently. Analytical and detail-oriented with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with clients, team members, and CBSA. Ability to handle high work volumes and meet deadlines efficiently. Professional demeanor reflecting company standards. Bachelor’s Degree in a related field. Experience with Descartes ITMR4 is an asset.
