Job Description

To further develop the Customs brokerage product in the marketplace through focus on Operations, Finances, Sales, People, Systems, and Culture in adherence to the company’s policy and procedures.

Tasks and Duties:

People:

Train, motivate, challenge and mentor other employees.Conduct regular reviews against company and job expectations.Create personal development plan with each employee. Set up, plan training and follow-upIdentify, develop and mentor your No. 2Ensure all staff and positions have job descriptions, clear expectations and are working with structured development plansReview department goals and business plan periodically with staff to ensure buy-in and accountability 

Operations:

Ensure Operational Excellence Standards Are Met (in support of DE standards)Ensure customs entries are filed timely based on our internal KPI and client expectationEnsure all classification instructions for all shipments for all customersMonitor duty deferment usage and levelsMeet with local customs to discuss performance, delays, red-channels, customs developments, and plans (to adapt country per country)

Customer:

Participate in client QBR’s both in-person (domestic travel required) and sometimes virtuallyActively develop business for department through active involvement in sales and retention process Manage implementation and ensure compliance to “Standard Operating Procedures” for the clientBuild and maintaining strong relationships with service providers and customersEnsure all new business is transitioned correctlySupport sales and account management in completing RFQ’s/RFP’s

 Finance:

Ensure clean AR and no bad debtRegular review of margin and ratesDepartment P&L – review, identify, plan

 Compliance:

Promote compliance in diligently following all company policies and regulations and in being the role model of integrity and pride for all employeesProactively communicate with the team to ensure continuous awareness and understanding of policies and regulationsMaintain a positive relationship with the Trade Compliance Manager and support all compliance efforts and trainings

Culture:

Systems:

Promote productivity tools (e.g.  Vector, process management fundamentals, etc)Be open to implementing new system changes and enhancements with your team.Audit of files in accordance to OPS manualSend client report requests through the available database (expo request, expo reporting)

QualificationsMinimum of 3 years CHB experienceGlobal logistics industry knowledgeGood computer skills (e.g., MS Excel, MS Word)Proven problem solving, interpersonal, communication and leadership skills US CHB license (REQUIRED or taking exam in next 12 months)IATA certified (preferred)Deep understanding of process fundamentalsExpeditors company policies and procedures knowledgeExpert knowledge of customs brokerage and/or import processes and systems essentialStrong knowledge of customs legislation, especially with regards to classification, valuation and originUnderstanding of ocean and air documentation processGeneral knowledge of air and ocean transportSound understanding and knowledge of incotermsHazardous Materials certification (preferred)Well-rounded knowledge of the customs tariff and customs systemUnderstanding of Other Government AgenciesWorking knowledge and experience of the customs regulations
