**Job Description:**
The CV Invasive Specialist performs duties necessary for advanced EP or interventional procedures at a technical and professional level requiring little or no supervision of technical detail. The Specialist performs technical procedures that regularly require independent judgment. The CV Invasive Specialist assumes responsibility and initiative for designated areas and procedures as required.

**Position Details:**
+ **Department Location** : St George Hospital- Cath Lab
+ **Scheduled Weekly Hours:** Full-Time, 40 hrs/weekMonday - thru Friday 10-hour shifts; weekends and holidays off; on-call coverage/Cath Lab includes 1-2 nights a week, plus 1 weekend every 5 weeks w/rotating holiday groups; 4 person on-call team
+ **prefer- experienced EP or Cath Lab, RCIS/RCES preferred**
Scope
This job is only to be used at facilities where advanced Interventional or EP procedures are performed. Follows Alliance of Cardiovascular Professionals (ACVP) Scope of Practice or for Electrophysiology the NASPE Standards of Professional Practice for the Allied Professional in Pacing and Electrophysiology.
+ An RN will be present to supervise the care of patients during moderate sedation.
+ RCIS or RCES is required to pass medications
Job Essentials
+ Participates in procedure room preparation and post procedure turn around.
+ Makes hemodynamic recordings, calculations, and interpretations.
+ Provides emotional support for patients and their family members.
+ Assists in inventory control.
+ Fosters teamwork and cohesiveness with team members and physicians.
+ Provides patient education and ensures patient comfort.
+ Assesses and documents patient condition. Informs the physician of deviations from normal criteria throughout the procedure.
+ Understands and applies principles of x-ray generation and safety. Understands and demonstrates the correct operation of imaging equipment.
+ Provides procedural assistance as a circulating tech, scrub tech, or monitoring tech, according to Cath Lab policies and procedures and scope of practice documents.
+ May mix and administer some medications under the direction and supervision of the physician.
+ Performs point of care testing and QA.
+ At the end of the procedure, may apply closure device, suture the sheath in place, or remove the sheath and apply pressure to obtain hemostasis.
+ Provides for the thorough and accurate documentation of each procedure and associated events.
+ Develops skills in operating, calibrating, and troubleshooting all equipment in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory.
+ Maintains a complete knowledge of cardiopulmonary pathophysiology, pharmacology, anatomic anomalies, and treatment options.
+ Has a thorough knowledge of invasive diagnostic and interventional supplies, appropriate indications and applications, and proper use and deployment techniques.
+ Prepares for patient status changes related to procedural events. Takes immediate and appropriate action in response to when these changes occur.
+ Mentors and trains staff on equipment use and procedural techniques.
+ Develops education and orientation materials with regard to emerging technologies and educates staff to establish proficiency.
+ Presents at interdepartmental meetings and CV conferences.
+ Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of care process models.
+ Establishes and maintains quality control standards.
+ Assists with procedure planning, equipment selection, and evaluation of available therapeutic options.
Advanced Interventionalists only:
Fulfills role of first assist and scrubs a minimum of 50 interventional procedures per year.
Demonstrates excellence with respect to at least 5 of the following advanced interventional procedures and therapies:
+ Valvuloplasty
+ PFO and other septal closures
+ Alcohol ablation for HOCM
+ CAS (Carotid Artery Stenting)
+ Left atrial appendage closure
+ CTO (chronic total occlusion) interventions
+ Chronic lead extractions
+ Brachytherapy
+ Percutaneous mechanical circulatory support (Impella/CardioHelp)
+ Percutaneous valve repair
+ Percutaneous valve insertion
+ Perivalvular leak closures
+ EVAR (endovascular aortic repair)
Advanced Electrophysiology only:
Fulfills role of first assist and scrubs a minimum of 50 Electrophysiology and device procedures per year.
Demonstrates excellence with respect to:
+ Suture device pockets
+ Measure baseline intervals
+ Establish capture thresholds
+ Perform diagnostic EP study identifying AV block, VA Block, AERP, VERP, AVNERP, Fast pathway ERP, Slow pathway ERP, PVC on HIS, etc.
+ Arrhythmia induction protocols
+ Basic 3D mapping: Non-timing cases (A fib Ablation, AVNRT)
Minimum Qualifications
+ Current BLS certification for Healthcare Providers.
+ Current ACLS or PALS certification. New hires obtain within 6 months of hire.
+ Currently registered as a Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) or Cardiovascular Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) or passed the CEPS exam (EP only).
+ Five years of advanced interventional or electrophysiology experience.
+ Recommendation by Medical Director, Interventional Lead Cardiologist, or EP Program Director.
+ Demonstrated proficiency in all CVIS II job duties without supervision. Extensive knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology.
+ Demonstrated proficiency in advanced interventional techniques or EP mapping and pacing applications.

+ Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
+ Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
+ Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
+ Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
+ Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).
+ May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
