Overview
Under direct supervision of anatomical pathology management, performs routine laboratory support duties in any one of the various specialized anatomic pathology laboratories: surgical pathology, histology, cytology and autopsy pathology.
Key Responsibilities
Retrieves surgical pathology and cytology specimens from designated locations. Accessions cytopathology and/or surgical pathology specimens. Checks accuracy of specimen labeling; identifies and initiates steps to resolve discrepancies. Answers phones and responds to customer inquiries and requests. Identifies and resolves specimen labeling discrepancies, with appropriate documentation. Troubleshoots and resolves instrument issues with assistance. Monitors supply inventory. Ensures specimens are processed in a timely manner, meeting department standards. Performs other related duties as assigned. QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.
Experience: Two years of work experience as a Cytology/Histology Laboratory Technician I or equivalent experience in a clinical or hospital setting required. Effective verbal and communication skills required.
