Cytotech Job Summary:
Practices clinical laboratory science in the specialty of cytology. Responsible for the examination of materials or specimens taken from the human body to provide information for use in the diagnosis, prevention or treatment of a disease or the assessment of a medical condition.
May be required to perform other duties within the pathology department as directed by the pathologist or assistant director of Pathology. May include clerical duties or duties within the histology area of the laboratory depending on the availability of personnel.
Ensures the high quality of specimen preparations, screening, interpretation and reporting of microscopic slides in an expeditious manner. Responsible for recognizing results or problems that require referral to the Pathologist.
Maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in quality improvement activities. Assists with FNA’s and bone marrows as requested.
Cytotech Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and certification as a Registered Cytotechnologist by the ASCP.
Valid Cytotechnology license including successful completion of competency/proficiency testing.
