+ DESCRIPTION OF POSITION + A person who performs screening for a variety of diseases using a microscope to detect abnormalities of the human body cells. They interpret cells collected using cytological techniques such as pap smears and fine needle samples. They work in a collaborative environment with the pathologist. At times the cytotechnologist will prepare the slides to be interpreted. + QUALIFICATIONS + Professional/Educational + Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biological sciences, or related field + Laboratory training at an accreditated cytotechnologists program resulting in National Certification: CT (CLS), (AMT), (ASCP) and currently registered. + Experience in slide preparation using a Thinprep or manual method + Maintain the National Certification through College of American Pathologist Pap Smear Proficiency Program + Must meet the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988(CLIA ’88) as requirement for testing personnel in a high complexity testing laboratory. + Maintain the Quality Assurance for the cytological specimens insuring the screening and rescreening of slides by appropriate parameters. + Personal + Evidence of good health, grooming and professional conduct. + Desire and ability to cooperate with and/or under the direction of others. + Possesses a sense of responsibility, initiative and honesty. + Ability to follow directions accurately. + Appreciation of and desire to be a part of a health care team dedicated to providing patients optimal care. + Ability to work closely with Medical Technologists, other technicians, patients, physicians, nurses and other employees. Actual pay will be determined by qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
