The Data Architect will play a crucial role in ensuring the continuity of legacy systems and leading the design and development of data solutions, ensuring they meet the mission goals and objectives of a federal agency. This role involves collaborating with technical staff to support both current and future database designs, ensuring the continuity of legacy data stores, and contributing to the strategic vision for data management. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in data architecture, solution design, and development, with strong analytical and collaboration skills. The position is a hybrid role with 2-3 days of onsite work required weekly.
Responsibilities:
Lead all phases of solution design and development, from initiation to deployment, ensuring that data solutions align with the agency’s mission goals and objectives.Develop and implement data solutions that effectively support the agency’s operational needs and strategic initiatives.Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for data solutions, including data reference models and conceptual data models.Work closely with client Database Administrators (DBAs) and other technical staff to support current and future database designs.Provide expert guidance on data architecture and collaborate on the integration of legacy data sources with new systems.Facilitate communication and understanding between technical teams and business stakeholders to ensure effective data management and utilization.Provide continuous institutional knowledge and expert insights into the data environment to support Operations and Maintenance (O&M) responsibilities.Bridge the understanding between legacy application data sources and the expanded use of the Enterprise Data Central Repository where appropriate.Conduct conceptual and logical data modeling activities to support the design of data solutions.Understand and perform logical functional/data decomposition activities to meet business process requirements.Identify data requirements for different business processes and develop strategies for data acquisition and integration.Collaborate with Business Owners and Subject Matter Experts to identify authoritative data sources and related data fields.Understand and document how data will be used in upstream and downstream requirements.Lead the identification of information assets and ensure that data requirements are accurately represented in documentation. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree with preferred study in Computer Science, Information Science, Information Systems Management, Math, Statistics, Operations Research, or EngineeringMinimum of 4 years of experience in a data architect role with a relevant bachelor’s degree, or a minimum of 5 years of experience as a Data Architect without a bachelor’s degree.Extensive experience with conceptual and logical data modeling activities.Understanding of logical functional/data decomposition activities. Proficiency in SQL and understanding of data requirements for business processes.Excellent analytical skills for identifying data requirements and developing effective data solutions.Strong collaboration skills and experience working with technical staff, business owners, and subject matter experts.Ability to develop and maintain data reference models and conceptual data models.#LI-Hybrid
