Job Summary

The Data Architect is responsible for designing, maintaining, and expanding business intelligence and enterprise data warehouse solutions in support of the organization's strategic initiatives under limited supervision. The Data Architect has in-depth knowledge across multiple technical environments and can provide expertise regarding systems design, integration and data sourcing across the organization based on their domain (data, application, integration). Responsible for developing stored procedures, SSIS packages and CCL programs to address data requirements, both in-bound and out-bound. Position requires in-depth understanding of corporate data in a hospital setting (clinical and financial) as well as a variety of tools to build databases, data-marts, extracts of data, batch interfaces, reports, SSIS packages, dashboards, and cubes. Estimates costs of solutions and assists in preparing project plans to provide input into decisions about work prioritization. Interprets business requirements and designs reporting solutions. Prepares and maintains technical documentation about architecture of systems in scope. Assists in the development of processes, procedures and standards to continue to improve IT services. Leads small to medium projects and mentors others. Position also requires in-depth understanding of databases, including Microsoft SQL Server database design, data integration, ETL, stored procedures and SQL programming, used in healthcare industry

Responsibilities

1. Identifies and seeks opportunities for activities related to team development, employee engagement activities, and achievement of department goals and objectives.
2. Works across all IT teams and maintains a purview of standards and documentation of all IT systems architecture in scope. Ensures that all documentation is complete, accurate and stored appropriately.
3. Collaborates with and across all departments to translate business needs for systems, data access and integration into long-term system architecture solutions that add value to the organization. Documents and builds consensus for the proposed designs and solutions.
4. Follows Information Services methodologies, processes, policies, and procedures. Including but not limited to change management, documentation, and issue resolution.
5. Stays abreast of new technologies and trends in the healthcare industry.
6. Serves as project lead analyst or project manager on small to medium IT solutions within and across departments. This may include tracking project status, communication planning and implementation of deliverables.
7. Proactively trains and mentors others on process improvement, industry knowledge, effective communication, team building, and non-task oriented skills as required.
8. Serves as an SME regarding the reporting capabilities of responsible systems within the organization and able to lead departmental work efforts regarding those systems.
9. Serves as an information system consultant throughout organization. This includes gathering and interpreting business requirements. Independently formulates and implements reporting solutions based on requirements and following IT methodologies, processes and standards.
10. Participates in the ongoing maintenance of the data warehouse database & application, reporting tools, DSS scheduler and reports. Maintains specifications, requirements, designs, data flows, test scripts and support plans of existing reports.
11. Proactively facilitates communication and activities with areas of responsibility, within the department, across the organization and with solution vendors. Creates relationships built on trust and results with customers.
12. Defines and documents test plans for reporting solutions and assists in test execution. This will be done in collaboration with Analysts and other resources responsible for the systems being interfaced.
13. Independently and consistently demonstrates the ability to identify system issues/risks and proactively identifies and facilitates early interventions.
14. Demonstrates a complete understanding of the solution(s) supported.
15. Recommends changes in procedures to create and/or align with Best Practices, either from vendor or industry standards.
16. Recognizes complex problems that may affect more than systems of responsibility and effectively coordinates efforts with other department resources to resolve.
17. Analyzes and develops recommendations for strategic planning.
18. Participates on national analytic committees.
19. Presents extracted data from supported system(s) to large scale audiences both internal and external to healthcare enterprise.
20. Under general supervision, plans, conducts, and may supervise assignments. Reviews progress and evaluate results.
21. Responsible for training more junior staff in technical complexities of assigned work.
22. Directs and coordinates project activities including application upgrades, firmware updates, new hardware install, and patches, etc.
23. Must have appropriate and timely communications skills to communicate with senior level management.
24. Completed certification/accreditation for specific vendor and/or governing body related to specific applications/tools for which responsibility is held for support.
25. Analyzes extracted data from supported system(s) for accuracy and relevance.
26. Recommends changes in procedures to create and/or align with Best Practices, either from vendor or industry standards.
27. Recommends hardware/software upgrades or implementations for systems.
28. Provides technical support to application and device integration support areas within the department and to interface with application vendors to aid in installation of new releases/systems/hardware.
29. Must demonstrate skills for implementing performance-tuning tools to aid in monitoring of system performance.
30. Works with direct end users to support current and develop future customer complex workflow requirements that relate to ongoing support and new implementations.
31. Significant contribution to a departmental or institution wide quality effort annually.
32. On call as required.
33. Flexible hours when needed.
34. All other duties as assigned.

The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department’s identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.

Education 

• Bachelor's Degree (Required) Education: Bachelor’s Degree required, Advanced degree/technical certification in vendor preferred technology.

Experience: 5-7 years of experience with DSS / Healthcare Intelligence and/or Soarian Financial / RevElate reporting. Experience would include creating inbound and outbound data feeds and reporting. Knowledge and expertise in utilizing healthcare data in a variety of analytics, integration, and operational use cases. Knowledge of feeder systems – Millennium clinical and financial and/or Soarian Financial (required).  3+ years of application and integration architecture experience. 1+ years’ experience creating ETL packages (SSIS/DTS) 2+ years’ experience DBA or database developer SQL Server databases (2008 or later) PREFERRED 5+ years of experience designing, implementing and/or supporting multiple complex applications Including data warehouse, data base administration, or enterprise resource planning systems
