**Data Catalog Engineer** **Job Description** Southern Company Gas is hiring a Data Catalog Engineer for the Data Management team. The candidate will engage with stakeholders from the business and technology units in the Gas Technology Solutions organization to design, implement, and maintain a data catalog, ensuring effective data asset management. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience with data catalog and data dictionary tools, a strong understanding of database design, and proficiency in data governance policies and procedures to maintain data quality and integrity. **Skills** Required: + Proficiency in data catalog tools, data dictionaries and metadata management. + Over 7 years of experience in data management and data engineering. + 7-10 years of experience in designing, developing, and managing data dictionaries and data catalogs to ensure accurate and comprehensive documentation of data artifacts. + Extensive experience collaborating with data stewards, data analysts, database administrators, data scientists, and other stakeholders to gather requirements and ensure consistent and standardized data definitions. + Over 5 years of experience conducting data audits to verify data accuracy and integrity. + Demonstrated ability to design and implement processes to support data discovery, lineage, and classification. + Over 7 years of experience using data catalog and dictionary tools (e.g., Erwin, Alation, Informatica, Collibra) and data governance frameworks. + More than 5 years of experience with Python, Java, PL/SQL, and T-SQL. + More than 5 years of experience in implementing and enforcing data governance policies and procedures. + Proven experience in implementing and enforcing data governance policies and procedures to ensure data quality and integrity. + Deep understanding of data security, encryption methods, and compliance standards for data elements. + Demonstrable experience with data warehouses and data lakes containing structured and unstructured data (on premise or cloud). + Ability to build and adapt scalable data architecture to meet growing demands. **Education** + BS degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent. **Additional Competency Qualifications** + Demonstrable experience of emotional intelligence and critical thinking that aided successful outcomes. + Excellent verbal and written communication and strong interpersonal skills to work with multiple teams. + Proficiency in PL/SQL and/or T-SQL programming. + Strong attention to detail and analytical skills. + Proficiency in diagnosing and resolving data-related problems. + Ability to work independently and collaboratively. + Extensive experience with application development and software engineering. + Knowledge of Physical Database design like table partitioning, indexing strategies and other database optimization techniques + Experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) tools like SSIS, Informatica. + Energy utility (Natural Gas and Electricity) industry experience is a plus.
