Data Center Operations Tech
The Data Center Operations Technician will be responsible for installation and maintenance of the hardware infrastructure that supports the Barnes&Noble business. This includes installation of server hardware, storage and network equipment, system cabling, and upgrades of firmware and Lights Out management systems for the server and networking equipment. The Data Center Operations Technician will also be responsible for Break/fix of hardware components, such as but not limited to power supplies, memory, CPU, disk controllers, SFP’s, etc. The Data Center Technician will also be responsible for understanding the power and cooling systems within the data center, monitoring to ensuring that systems are functioning as expected, escalating when issues arise and managing normal maintenance and repair issues. This is a “hands-on” position requiring strong technical skills, as well as excellent informal leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.
An employee in this position can expect a starting rate between $62,400 - $65,000 annually, depending on experience, seniority, geographic locations, and other factors permitted by law.• Support & Maintain the Data Center Network, Server, Storage, Power and Cooling systems
• Installation of Data Center hardware into the rack, including power, data and management connections
• Upgrade of Server and Network firmware and BIOS as required to keep systems current and up to date
• Monitor the facility environment to ensure adequate power and cooling. Responsible for managing the relationship with the HVAC and Electrical contractors to ensure maintenance and repair is done to keep the environment healthy and operational
• Installation of Copper and Fiber ethernet cables, and Fiber Channel cables for SAN environment
• HW break/fix of all components, and manage third party support vendors for repairs• Full time, on-site 2nd Shift (4pm-12am ET) at the Distribution Center facility in Monroe, NJ
• Strong time-management, prioritization, multi-tasking, problem-solving skills
• Ability to think critically, analytically, and strategically.
• Experience installing and maintaining data center HW
• Experience monitoring data center HVAC and power systems
• Experience in cabling data center switches and servers
• Solid foundation in networking concepts
• Experience with the following HW systems:
o HPE, Standalone, C7000 and Synergy Blades
o DELL/EMC, SAN, NAS
o Networking, Cisco, PaloAlto, F5, Fortinet
• Working in a ServiceNow environment is a plus
• At least 3 years of experience in Data Center Operations role
• Education requirement – Technical degree in Information Technology disciplineInformation Systems & Technology
