Data Center Technician

Works under limited supervision to perform all tasks associated with the installation, acceptance and maintenance of Telecommunication infrastructures for customer contracted sites and ark data centers. Responsibilities range from project installation, testing and troubleshooting of

Telecommunication infrastructure components including but not limited to patch panels for copper, enclosures for fiber, cable tray, wire management and related cabling.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


• Working knowledge of copper (UTP, Cat6, etc.) and fiber optic media types, (MMF, SMF, 50 micron, 62.5 micron), industry standards and applications, and use cases (e.g., Ethernet, Fiber Channel).

• Install cable runs, patch panels and cross connects.

• Hands-on experience with the installation of both copper and fiber media types.

• Working knowledge with cable testing systems to ensure operational integrity (pre/post installation).

• Working knowledge of troubleshooting both copper and fiber cable media. (e.g., dB loss, Attenuation, Breaks, Termination Problems, Transmission Characteristics).

• Understanding of network layouts and layer 1 topologies.

• Working knowledge with Data Center Network Hardware (Ethernet, Fiber Channel interfaces).

• Working knowledge of pertinent ISO Standards associated with Data Center Cable Infrastructure including ANSI-942, ANSI-568.

• Working knowledge with Cable Management Systems (e.g., Cabinet, Ladder Rack, Cable Tray, and Wire Managers).

• Excellent customer service skills.

• Execute customers’ support requests and update order management system.

• Responsible for timely closure of customer work/project requests for billing.

• Responsible for submitting expenses related to customer work/project requests for billing.

• Manage and track capacity of customer MDF, IDF, patch panels and cables.

• Maintain detailed site documentation of customer telecommunications infrastructure

Required Skills:


• Must be able to effectively communicate (oral and written) with all employees, contractors, vendors and customers 

• Self-starter and team player

• Must be organized and provide deliverables in support of project plans

• Interpret processes, flow charts, building plans and schematics


Education and Experience:


• 2-5 years of data center telecommunications infrastructure experience


Experience and Interpersonal Skills:


• Understand and follow oral and written instructions

• Ability to prioritize and manage multi-functional tasks

• Ability to work effectively under pressure, and against strict time constraints

• Ability to develop organizational talent

• Attention to detail and quality of work


Compensation: The compensation for this position is $40,000-52,000 annually. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including experience and skillsets.
