The University of Miami Health System, "UHealth", Information Technology Department has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Data Center Technician to work in Miami.

The Data Center Systems Technician manages the day-to-day operations of relevant equipment within the UHealth Data Centers, including uninterruptible power supply systems. This position coordinates management of the fire suppression system and the air conditioning units. The incumbent will manage inventory of all data centers using a central asset management system.

Coordinate management of datacenters and colocation space with facilities and vendors.

Prioritize requests and deploying servers to meet deadlines.

Evaluate machine temperature levels for optimal performance, expected to maintain accurate work records and event logs. Employee will create concise virtual information reports to keep company management informed of status updates.

Empower a culture of safety, security, and compliance in all aspect of datacenter activities.

Establish and enhance strong working relationships with various internal teams and external suppliers.

Manage overall ticket management process.

Perform power cycles, swap out failed components, handle storage media, and perform troubleshooting.

Perform cable installations, hardware rack / stack installations, testing, and troubleshooting using standard datacenter processes.

Physically assist in moving and racking equipment.

Provide support for deployment of on-site DC physical infrastructure including Servers, NetDevices, SANS, Window Server OS.

Maintain and conduct repairs on the physical structure that houses data center equipment.

Monitor and evaluate servers contained in the data center.

Maintain an inventory of all equipment in the data center.

Assist with Server OS configuration as needed.

Troubleshoot physical hardware and manage parts/component replacements.

As required, assist with shipping/receiving and inventory management to address high work volumes.

Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Department Specific Functions

HVAC/CRAC unit maintenance for UHealth campus data centers

Maintain accurate PDU inventory and perform PDU replacements as needed

Annually schedule UPS Maintenance for all UHealth data centers

Interact with other teams to discuss rack space and power requirements for new equipment

Maintain server and device inventory in our DCIM Environment

Perform application and security updates on our DCIM server

Assist with data center access control and provide access for UHIT vendors/contractors on a per-request basis

Follow standard decommission process for retired and powered off equipment

Keep data center aisles clean and free of any boxes or equipment

On-site position 5 days/week

On-call for all hardware outages in UHealth data centers

CORE QUALIFICATIONS:                                                                                                                  

High School Diploma. Bachelor's degree preferred.

3 or more years of work experience in an IT environment.

A valid driver’s license is required as travel is involved to our data centers and server locations

Must have knowledge of the following data center functions: backups, system monitoring, report generation and distribution.

Intermediate to advanced operational and working knowledge with mainstream operating systems and their respective products required.

Intermediate network knowledge of protocols and design, interfaces and devices.

Excellent interpersonal skills.

Self-driven and work effectively with little supervision.

Outstanding oral and written communication skill

Excellent problem analysis and problem-solving capabilities

This position has a physical component. Candidates should be able to lift up to 30lbs and may require need to work in elevated locations.

A strong desire and capability to learn, grow, and develop new skills.
