Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated IT/OT Data Engineer to join our dynamic team. As a Data Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and maintaining our organization's data architecture and infrastructure, with a specific emphasis on supporting a Manufacturing Organization. The ideal candidate should possess strong technical skills, a deep understanding of data management principles and systems integration and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. Experience in developing data architectures for manufacturing results, familiarity with data visualization tools, and demonstrated experience working in support of a Manufacturing Organization are highly desirable.
Responsibilities:
Data Design for Manufacturing: Collaborate with stakeholders to understand data requirements and design scalable and efficient data architectures, specifically tailored for manufacturing processes. Develop and maintain data models, schemas, and structures to support business needs, with a focus on key manufacturing process indicators such as yield, cycle times, SPC, trending, and process interdependencies. Ensure that the data architecture aligns with industry best practices and supports the unique needs of manufacturing processes. Implement strategies for optimizing data storage and retrieval, considering the volume and velocity of manufacturing data. Work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate manufacturing data seamlessly into the overall data architecture. Maintain a deep understanding of manufacturing data sources, formats, and industry standards to drive informed architectural decisions. System Integration Management: Manage system integrations between Manufacturing, OT, and Enterprise IT environments (I.E, PLC to MES, MES to OKTA, ERP, PLM, etc.) Configuration management for system-to-system communication and system to middleware communication. Data Pipeline Development: Design, implement, and optimize ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to move and transform manufacturing data from diverse sources to the data warehouse. Ensure data pipeline reliability, scalability, and performance. Data Integration for Manufacturing: Integrate manufacturing data from various systems, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and reliability. Work closely with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless data flow across the organization. Manufacturing Data Analysis: Apply expertise in manufacturing data to analyze and interpret key process indicators, including yield, cycle times, SPC, trending, and process interdependencies. Collaborate with manufacturing teams to identify data-driven insights that contribute to process optimization and improvement. Data Quality and Governance: Implement and enforce data quality standards and data governance best practices specific to manufacturing data. Monitor and troubleshoot data quality issues, collaborating with relevant teams for resolution. Database Management: Manage and optimize database systems, ensuring data availability and performance. Implement and maintain data security measures to protect sensitive manufacturing information. Data Visualization: Demonstrated familiarity with leading data visualization tools such as Tableau and Power BI. Proficient in creating compelling and insightful visualizations of manufacturing data to facilitate analysis and interpretation.Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field. Minimum 8 years in the IT field, with 5 of those years in support of Data Engineering. Proven experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role with a focus on manufacturing support. Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, Java, or Scala. Experience with big data technologies and frameworks (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, Kafka). Proficiency in SQL and database management systems (e.g., MS-SQL, Oracle, Postgres). Knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and their data services. Familiarity with data lake/warehousing concepts and tools. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong communication and collaboration skills. Preferred Technology Skills: Master's degree in a relevant field. Industry certifications in data engineering or related areas. Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes). Knowledge of machine learning concepts and frameworks.Physical Demands:
May work various shifts as needed; may be requested to travel to different locations. Lifting up to 25 pounds and occasionally 50 pounds. Able to walk, stand, crouch, bench, kneel, lift, carry and reach as needed in large and tight spaces. Good eye/hand coordination and ability to identify color variations, depth perceptions and close or distance visual items. Manual dexterity with occasional repetitive finger motion.Environmental Demands:
Ability to work in manufacturing environment with extreme heat and cold conditions. Wear protective clothing or respiratory protective equipment. Works with irritant chemicals, gases, etc.Travel: 0 - 10%
